I know this is an old thread but I'm interested in the idea of using a 55 coil on my 44 and eliminating the trigger as indicated above.

Have I understood your post correctly?

According to the diagram I have Yes.  You have to IIRC drill another hole in coil windings.  Haven't tried it but it diagram came from Husky.

Thanks, my 44 has just been cleaned up so it may not have the fault that the PO stated.  That it dies when it get hot.  The saw was very heavily gunked up with saw cake. I'll tidy up the chain and see how it goes before pursuing the swap.
