55 rancher rebuild
« on: July 07, 2014, 03:00:49 pm »
I replaced the piston and cylinder on my 55 rancher. Now it starts and runs but has very little power. Any suggestions?

Why did you replace the original p&c?

The piston was badly scored. I was told that the saw got too hot, possibly due to wrong fuel mix.

Or badly leaking seals, or carb plate problems. Did you replace the impulse grommet and carb flange tube?

I did not. How would they affect performance?

Because they are known to fail in these models. Causing air leaks and could be the reason why the p&c toasted in the first place. Also check your tank vent. If its not working correctly it will be gutless. Like what Tim said. Did you put that rubber grommet in the new cylinder? The new cylinders don't have it in them.

Try a compression test on it also.   Need to make sure the compression is up where it should be.
