Sorry, can't help regarding the piston.

What brand is cylinder, KolbenScmidt, Mahle, or something else?

it's a mahle. i ended up ordering the piston choke lever and kill switch from chainsawr. the piston is an after market, no idea what brand but it looks like the same company that i've used before that probably makes them for a multitude of other names and have been nothing but top quality. hudsons has the ring in stock, and i'll be picking that up in the morning. the piston won't be here until late next week so i have time to do some cleaning.
the bottom end is very good. basicly like new.
i only ran it for about 10-15 minutes but i dig the way this saw feels in the hands. has a good solid feel to it. nice and tight. even with the porblems, it pulled strong. actualy pretty damn strong. so i'll be happy to see what it's like after a bit of cleaning up and refresh.
nothing broken, stripped or cobbled. just a high hour saw.

here's more pics of the piston. gotta feelin it's aftermarket. the person who put it together (and the person that opened it back up to 'clean' up the piston) must not have been using common sense and blindly followed the arrow in the wrong direction.

On original pistons there is a arrow pointing direction.

I haven't seen this E on any here. I have seen letter markings that indicate what piston go to what cylinder, it could be that i guess.
A, B, C, D I have seen.

not yet. customs decided to hold onto it for a while longer. it was released last night and is now once again 'in transit' >:(

the piston showed up a few days ago along with the choke lever, a couple av isolaters, and kill switch. the saws basicly all back together, just the top handle, cover and muffler need to go on. painted the muffler last night, need the throw it in the oven for a few heatings to cure it. i'll post some pics tonight when i get home. gotta go and help build a pool gazebo :)

.....

I'm not really sure what I see there, but the symbol close to the centre of that picture makes me think KolbenSchmidt (a S superimposed over a K?  ???
