Wonder what happened with this saw. Hate these stories with no happy ending.

Guys,
I'm back to report a happy ending.     ;).   After weeks of getting terribly frustrated, I finally figured it out. I've had this saw down to the last bolt multiple times.  Again, I'm fairly new to taking small engines apart (so don't laugh when I tell you what it was),  but I learn a lot in the process and don't easily give up.  Well, apparently, the head gasket stuck to the old cylinder when I replaced it.   Because of this, I didn't notice that it was missing and didn't notice all 5 times I took it apart and reassembled it.  Someone shared a parts diagram and I happen to notice the two part numbers for the gaskets.  Just got them in the mail today and had it together and running in 20 minutes (I'm a pro at reassembling this thing by now, lol).  Funny thing is, the saw is getting the same compression reading (120psi) as it was without the gaskets.  One of the reasons why I thought the cylinder was assembled correctly.  Anyways, thanks for the advise you all gave.  Wanted to share my experience in hopes you can recommend adding the head gasket to the next idiot.

I thought the Husqvarna 455 Rancher was a clam shell crankcase and it uses a type of O-ring to seal the two halves together.

So when you say head gasket I am confused.

Ok, maybe I'm using the wrong term.  There are two odd shaped, rubber seals that go on the right and left side of cylinder that I am calling a head gasket.  This seals the two clam shells.  Never noticed these when I took it apart the first time.

Sounds like the crank seals that fit outside of the  bearings.

He is talking about part number 537 24 57-01     And
537 24 58-01

I believe they are base gaskets.

Absolutely.  Was just about to clarify the exact part numbers, but you beat me to it.  Thanks!
