Husqvarna 3120 coil swap 272
« on: July 10, 2011, 11:41:14 am »
I had a stock 3120 that had the rev limited 10.5k coil and after installing the 272 type coil she was a whole different animal in rip cuts with just a 32" buried for testing fun in very dry american elm.  I had actually used a coil from a jonsered 630 625 (not real sure) or something that was just like the 272 coil just older coil.

Pic below isnt my 3120, but shows how to set timing right without using a degree wheel.

Just saving old pics of my stock 1992 husqvarna 3120.

With unlimited coil and out of wood it's turning 13.1K and it's unreal holding r's in the cut. The 10.5k stock coil to me was just holding it back. JMO

kevin I haven't tried it yet but have heard you can also use a 394 coil and flywheel to make it unlimited.

Stumbled across this info Mitch posted. mweba = The 55 coil is the one I transplanted to the 3120 I built. On the larger fly wheels, one must grind the pickup angle slightly for sufficient spark.
