Husqvarna 359
« on: December 01, 2014, 04:41:44 pm »
I'm currently working on a 359 that runs fine cold but after some long cuts it leans out when hot. I'm going to replace the fuel line and filter (which looks OK) upgrade the intake clamp, replace the crank seals, and kit the carb. In your guys expert opinion, what do you think the issue is? I like to change all these things while I have every thing tore apart. And I hate to fix one thing at a time too because of waiting on the shipping. How will it run if the vent is bad? Any ideas are appreciated.
Ron

Usually the lean out is seals

There's other areas on a 359.

The automatic decompression devices never worked properly in the long run

The threads for the carb screws in the carb end of the boot are usually stripped out in a old one.

Sometimes the cylinder base gasket has leaked.

I would set it for a pressure/vacuum test cold. If it holds, run it till it's warm and redo the test. Does it have the Walbro or zama on it?

or the flange that the carb bolts into is warped.

Only the very early ones had the auto decomp, but yes they are no good! Easy to bypass though.

Also the Walbro hda 199 carbs can have a problem. The right kit and a hole drilled in the metering cover will fix it.

Very good saws, I'm building two right now.

"the right kit (D24HDA) or drilling a hole in the metering cover . . ."

Not necessary to do both
