Check things before just bolting on another topend IMO.   You might be able to clean the scored one up and use it too.

Where were your carb settings etc when you scored it?

Check for air leaks, intake seal, impulse seal. Crankcase seals. Cylinder gasket etc.

I've had good luck with  aftermarket kits from http://www.northwoodsaw.com/store/

Also some good afm kits on feebay from certain sellers. Cant come up with the username right now.

Scott username chainsawr might have a used oem set too. http://store.chainsawr.com/

What's really sad about this I took the saw to a local dealer mechanic said it was running good shapened blade and adjusted carb . I use fresh gas and good quailty oil I thought. Hoping I will be able to get it running with a rebuild. Thanks for the tipps I haven't done a rebuild on a saw.

Here is a husky 51 55 IPL  to use  http://s30387.gridserver.com/partsDiagrams/Husqvarna%2051%20and%2055.pdf

Also have a service manual for the 55 too if needed.

It could be a number of things that caused it to cook the top end .Whatever it is it's a good idea to find out before you dump a bunch of money and time in it .

If you suspect seals rather than take a chance just replace them .Easy enough to do and cheap .

OK I have a 55 too
BUT I have a lot of 2 stroke toys
and I don't know where you live, but some even top line two stroke pre mixes  will seperate in cold weather, some will even say so on the bottle
like Maxima Pro Series 927 Castor 2-Stroke Oil, its a premium oil, but will seperate below 35 degree's

and so will others too! thats just an example
so that could be a cause to look into

Greetings, I was given a Husqvarna 51 that is low on compression. What vendor provides a reasonably priced cylinder/piston/ring kit? I was advised to stay away from the Chinese Ebay kits.

Man of Stihl had put a aftermarket 55 top on a saw I took in on trade from him. It is out there cutting firewood still today without a hitch. maybe he will chime in on what kit and whether he used oem or afm cir-clips etc.

Also I would be figuring out what caused the scored top end before throwing another one on it.
