There was a rotten cedar that the wind blew over at the local cemetery so today I went over to finish it off. It was still half attached about 6' up. The tree was about 20 diameter not a bad size. After getting it all cut up I stumped it flush with the ground using the ole PP 405. Plenty of
torque for this type of cutting and with the muffler out let pointing straight down instead of out to the side this saw worked great. You just cannot beat
some of the old saws like this. Still getting plenty of use out of the old beast.

So last year I had let the saw sit for a little bit with fuel in it and could not get it to start. So I rebuilt the carb and the saw started and ran fine. The only issue was when I let it sit and idle it would start to slow down and eventually die. Or sometimes it would sit and idle then slow down and then when I picked it up suddenly it would die.
So today I took the carb back off and brought the lever down for the metering needle about 2 or 3 mm. Bingo idles great now. I like this saw because it will noodle through logs like a hot knife thru butter and it never plugs up from chips.
The 405 / 455 is still going strong.

Took the 405/455 out today and cut up a few logs. All can say is I like it.
Probably to heavy to take to the woods when I am falling trees but for bucking up some logs for the splitter it moves right along. I did not have a bar to fit this so I have a bunch of these Sandvik bars that have really big slots in them. So today I made an adapter for it and drilled the oil hole to match. It takes a 63 DL chain and all I had was 64 so I took one DL out. Saw works great thanks.

Yep. It would be nice to see the difference between the two in timed cuts.
Roger I shipped it out today. I have tracking and insurance. When cold starting, don't use the trigger lock. It doesn't like that.

Both saws are running 7t 3/8. That poulan is a runner....I had thrown that 455 top end and crank case (which is junk) out a couple years ago. Glad it didn't go to the scrap yard yet.

Thats what surprised me too in the cant even. I expected 441 to run away from it in small wood. I bet bigger the wood the PP455 pulls away.
Maybe, but I can hear the rpm on the Stihl and it sounds higher to me.

I bet that 405 455 has torque to spare in the bigger cuts too compared to the 441? What gears in the cant 8T on both?

Oh. You have to use the 455 wrist pin because the 405 is too long. Other than that, a perfect fit. I love easy bolt on HP :-)

I'm learning too Kevin. :-) it is together and running. I'll get video tomorrow. Seems very snappy from idle to full throttle. I wish I could have the same log that I had used before to compare top ends. The 455 piston and cylinder was scored. You can see the piston in the pic. The cylinder cleaned up good. I smoothed out the piston with a flap disc. You can still see the scoring lines on the piston. But it will be fine. It has new rings though. Same rings as a j red 670 50mm.
The original 65 cc p&c are in perfect condition. I'm probably going to sell this saw after I run it for a bit.

Both the 455 to the left and 405 to the right have boost ports.

Thanks guys. When I get back from vaca. I'm going to tear it down and see if the 455 top end works. I'm think in it will.

The saw sounds good and looks like it runs pretty good also. Way to go.
I did not know that the 405 was also made with boost ports in them.

This hump under the coil tells me that this also has a boost port.....

The chain tensioner seems to be NLA. So I used a husqvarna 288 tensioner instead. Works.

Its a strong runner. The Pioneers are good saws. A little heavy for a 65cc saw.

I didn't see a PP 405 thread so I thought I would start one. I bought this at a auction, got it running. 150 lbs of comp. Runs good but I need a bar adjuster for it.
