FWIW the plastic cage (Polymid) bearings are more expensive than the steel cage bearings and are normally considered more desirable for high speed service.

Also if you loose a plastic cage, the engine will lock up but there are a minimum of metal shavings up in the engine. If you loose a metal cage, the metal shavings have been going up through the engine for some time and you will consider the piston/rings gone and sometimes the cylinder too.

Stihl 290/310/390  6203 C3 SKF OPEN TYPE BEARING 17X40X12mm   Seals 17 X 30 X 4.4  I level off the bearing cap and the cylinder with some 320 wet or dry paper on a glass pane before reassembly.

Buy a sealed bearing and then carefully remove the existing rubber seals.

The sealed bearing sets are always cheaper than open, mostly due to the fact that sealed is what's produced most.
