Title: jonsered 2050
Post by: pete on June 27, 2012, 06:44:02 am
Hey guys I have one of these and have presumed it was straight gassed as looking through the muffler it's a real mess
This one came with no air filter
What I would like to know did they have a particular problem with engine seizures for any known reason
Why I ask is over the last couple of months while looking for parts I have come across 4 more for sale but all as seized,so thinking aloud maybe they have a problem I have not heard of and before outlaying for parts I am asking questions cheers

Galled pistons are the most common problem with chainsaws and has been for the 55 yrs I've been around them

There was a period with plastic intake clamps coming loose on Husqvarna 350's at one time.

There has also a problem with people straight gassing chainsaws.

Also common is for the High Speed Needle to just be set too lean on the carb.

I have a Husky 350 I bought slightly used and it was set very lean and I doubt the original owner had enough gumption to set the needle one way or the other or even know what the needle was? It was a box store chainsaw so the needle was set too lean from the factory.

They also had some problems with the crank seals leaking on those.

Husky 49 is the cousin to the 2050.   Husky 45 is the cousin to the 2045.

OEM cylinders were still available the last time I looked, but a bit on the pricey side for this saw family. If the cylinder can be saved then it's worth a piston. This was a decent chassis based on a Partner design, but I don't think it was popular enough that you'll find aftermarket parts for it.

Took a quick look, as the parts availability for saws from this era is beginning to fade. All three pistons for these saws are still available. The only P&C kit still available is the 2050/49 top end, and at over $200 I don't think they'll go very fast.

Thanks guys I have a new piston for it and a new airfilter that was missing when I got the saw could be the reason for the burn out  once I pull it down I will see if I can salvage the cylender.
