Do I need to remove the cyl studs to remove the cyl? With the nuts off the cylinder will lift about 1 1/2 " then stop. Piston moves freely. First time in a 075.
-
Art I can PM you a link to the 050 051 075 076 service manual. 76 pages long and has cylinder and piston disassemble steps.
-
I have the service manuals. Working for Stihl has its perks. Thanks anyway. Manual says to remove studs on a 051. Hope I have a 075.
-
No. you dont have to remove the studs. It just pulls right out. The 051 shouldn't have studs....
-
If thats the 075 i sold you, i put a new piston and rings in that saw. definitely an 075.
-
Thats the one. Good to here its a 075. Got a tip on AS as to what to look for. No gasket under the cyl, just sealant, no wonder I kept breaking cords. ;)
-
That saw should have a decomp. I cant remember if was tapped for one.
-
Here are a few pics. Don't think it is hanging on the piston. When the cyl stops the piston will still move up and down.
-
It's off thanks to Hitachi. Had to cut one stud off.

Aha I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he picked up a hammer and saw .
The thing has studs instead of bolts .I wondered what all the fuss was about .So evidently the studs had a bunch of built up crud on them ? Stuck in the hole so to speak .
