Title: Stihl MS 290 390
Post by: H 2 H on October 03, 2012, 11:58:52 pm
Some of you guys/gals have seen this saw before but I thought I would post it here also

I put one of Baileys 390 motor's in a MS 290 chassis

When I got the motor from Baileys I pulled it apart and did a little porting to it MM and some other little things to it. I have 10 + tanks thru it now and it runs strong for what it is

It has a 25" ES 3/8's b/c

I went and cut stumps tonight with it with a full comp chain the stumps were between 20" and 28" in dia.

What kind of cost is the 390 short block?  Seems like that could be the way to go in 290 310 rebuilds if cost effective.

I used it first part of December with no problems just cord and a half

I also helped taking out a few stumps in November with it

But my pair of 044 10mm have been getting the most use lately ;)

Yeah it's easy to install just make sure your saw is clean

Also take the bottom cover off and put a good seal on it the three that I have done needed some attention

I use this

All of mine didn't have a gasket just silicon

I also changed filter and impulse and fuel lines and checked intake boot really good for cracks
