I have a ~25 year old Craftsman chainsaw that I’m quite certain was made by Poulan. It’s a 2.0 cubic inch model. The oiler wasn’t working so I took the oil pump out but neglected to note the orientation of the pump. It turns out there was no oil discharge line connecting the pump outlet to the oiler hole. I replaced the oil line and now need to reinstall the pump. There are two possible orientations for the pump: one where two cutaway sections face up, and one where they face down. Which is correct? I would assume with the cutaway facing down the pump could draw oil from lower in the tank. But maybe there’s a reason to mount the pump the other way? BTW, this is a pressure operated pump, not a mechanically operated pump.

I got a red craftsman 2.0 out on the shelves that is still together just needing seals. I will snap some pics when I get a chance later on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the photos. Your saw looks very much like mine. Unfortunately, I can't determine from the pix how the black plastic oil pump is oriented. On my pump, there are two quadrants of the plastic that are cut out. Those cut outs can either face up or down. On your saw which way do they face? Thanks again.

You talking about the 2 square holes in the plastic with the sponge filter in it? 1 is facing you in 3rd pic. Looks to be toward the bolt hole toward you in pic.

1 is down and the other faces the back bolt hole sort of. You can see that one in 3rd pic.
