Holy Crap. A collector must want that craftsman 3.7 for some reason badly.

I have paid more for less.
I too have paid more for less wasn't intentional it turned out that way.  Yes it was intentional just paid a lot for a pristine PP330 w/manuals and the scrench..
I watched that one too.  Went for waaaaaaay more than I was willing to pay.  It looked pretty nice tho.

I was watching that 3.7 craftsman also.   To much for me.   By the time you pay shipping you have close to 200.00 in it.   Besides I have two 365's right now and I will be patient and another will show up.

Yep I have $60 in the 3500 so far and a rebuilt 365 on the shelf.  Which to me was the same saw.

A collector though (for the shelves)  it was different as that's the 1st 3.7 = 3500 PP365 I have seen.

Same here first one I have seen too.    I would be to tempted to modify it or do something to it, so it is just as well I did not get it.

I've seen a couple of them.  They don't show up often.  The first one went again for more than I was willing or able to pay @ the time.

Craftsman 3.7 60cc like the poulan 3500. Seen a few of these now.

This 3.7 sold in Ohio for $155 shipped.

Wow Kevin I have never seen a craftsman version like that before.   I have seen the 3300 in craftsman but a 60cc 3.7 is a first for me.    I like that.

Kevin I am looking at one of these & trying to make up my mind to pull the triger or not, are the 365 cylinders different than the 380 or are they the same?  Does anyone have one of these?
Title: Re: Craftsman 3.7 60cc
Post by: Cut4fun . on July 11, 2014, 11:57:25 am
Impulse fitting is in crankcase on 365 3500 and on the cylinder on the 380 3750.  That is the only difference I can tell. in cylinders.
I never checked port timing. But bet the same, just smaller intake and carb used on 365 3500 60cc.

Good read on 60cc tops http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/poulan/poulan-3300/msg17844/#msg17844

Yes I still have the like new one in pics off the 3450 60cc same as 380 3750.

Thanks for the good read.  I should really just finish my 380, but man I am a sucker for that craftman black.  Anyone ever try & use a stop watch to see any difference between the 2 carbs & intake sizes on these?
Title: Re: Craftsman 3.7 60cc
Post by: Cut4fun on July 11, 2014, 01:30:51 pm
I was but never did.  I think Shep and brokenbudget may have did it. BB was with a smaller saw and put the bigger intake and carb on.
For me it's not about stopwatch cuts anymore so never made the testing or swaps to see.

Well I finally decided togo after and find one of these. Just to do it and because I have only seen a couple for sale in my few years of searching for chainsaws.

I enjoy the search and reward of finding a saw more then owning it afterwords.  Thats why I then pass them onto collectors afterwords.

Craftsman 3.7 60cc version of the poulan 365 3500.

Still not here but got a text showing shipped. Reason for hold up was USPS and shipping box had a pic of a gas can on it. So it never left and was in holding till he repacked it.

Owner was wondering why I hadnt contacted him saying I received it since it had been a month now.  So he stopped into USPS to ask them about the package.

Received today.   Check another search, find, landed off my list.

Issue I was warned about was it was spit and sputtering not running right last time used.    I found the impulse line was run wrong and went up beside intake bolt head and over intake boot across to winter plug with hole put in it to run it through.  I found the impulse line was pinched under intake bolt it was run beside. Pulled till it tore out and ran new impulse line.

Filled up. Wrong size fuel line so it leaks around tank. Will fix this when I get back from my fishing trip.

Noticed no bar tensioner. So I looked closer. Someone tried a redneck fix under tensioner area.
So I filled up the bar oil tank. She still leaks, so I will fix that when I get back.

Other wise saw looks in great condition.

Box that USPS wouldnt ship and then put box in bigger box and all was OK.

Good score Kevin.  That bar oil leak looks familiar.  Doubt he cleaned things up enough before gooping the JB in there.  Also looks like he didn't use enough JB, and didn't put much effort into applying it....

I am surprised that so many of these saws have been busted in that area.  Unlike with a cover mounted tensioner....................these would be VERY difficult to put together with the tensioner not properly engaged in the bar.  It's all right there in front of you before you put the cover on and cinch down the bar nuts.  You gotta work hard to mess these up.  Obviously there are guys out there capable of such a screw up however........... :-\

Post by: 3000 FPS on May 30, 2015, 08:52:13 pm
I seen quite a few of those myself.   Some I welded up and on my 3500 I did the JB weld because it was just **** and not a hole in it.   Actually the JB weld seems to do very well.

Well she is paid for now.  Past owner wanted me to deduct all I had to do to it and found wrong. But I told them I looked at it as I was buying it as is where is as long as piston cylinder was good.

Little more then I like having in a 60cc, but figure $150 isnt to bad for a rarer saw.
Title: Re: Craftsman 3.7 60cc
Post by: Cut4fun . on June 07, 2015, 01:06:50 pm
Removed some of the jb weld repair and left the good areas of it there.  Was just leaking on the 2 ends of the jb repair is what I found. Took the sealall and worked it into both areas with a small paint brush. Then let it set for 24hrs since yesterday.

Today I put the tensioner in and new bigger fuel line, fuel filter and 3/8 7T rim with new GB pro top bar. Took some pics so newer guys can see how to angle line to pull through with long nose forceps.

Set it to 12K and she is running and cutting great.   ;D  Couldnt be happier with it.

I took a 24" K095 mount windsor speed tip bar for this saw. Because it came with a 24" when new. Just for kicks.

Will mod the bar to run on the K041 mount later. Just need to elongate the bar tensioner holes to reach up to bar groove for oiling.

Pulled muffler and the inner baffle was missing so i will drill out and stick one back in.

Then I went though my baffles and must of had 3-4 different length dang baffles.   :o

Just in case. The early red 3.7 is different series.

This very hard to find later black 3.7 is the same as a PP365 and 3500.  This 3.7 has the front muffler exit like one of my badboy 3750 had too.

Couldn't get in touch with you yesterday, had to work half a day, then go mow and blow leafs for a customer for Thanksgiving Day. I took .015 off cylinder base with base gasket of .011 for  total of .026. I'm a little confused about the compression reading I got before tear down as I got 175 PSI and there's no way it's sporting that when you compare it to my red 3.7 that's finally sporting 180 PSI and it takes a big handful to pull that over. I know my gage is on the money and I'm at a high altitude,so well see what it pulls reassembled . Gonna widen the exhaust to 60%,leave the intake alone for now and advance timing a few degrees.  An ideas where I can get a new ring? I'll check out that tank thread you started, might give me some ideas for that large carb transplant later on down the road ;D

I know it had good psi but I dont think I ever checked it that  I can remember. Know it had good pop pop pop when pulled slowly.

Something must have screwed up. Never charged before for extra rings.

I just did it and added rings free.

US $4.14 for quantity 2

order 8 and only added $1    US $5.14 for quantity 8

No matter now you got the rings. ;)

Shipping charges added up 16.00,might of been my bad but yes I have an extra set. Ended up with 200psi on the 365 not enough squish .005 short ::) Looks like a base gasket is in order, that'll put me near 190psi

made a gasket .008,.021 squish with a compression reading of 190. Just waiting for parts to reassemble it.

Well I finally got the chance to use the 365 today and all I can say is this saw just well balanced and not  real heavy compared to my partner R16. The mods I did where I really opened up the M/B with 4 large rectangular openings on both sides and enlarge the muffler exit to about 85% of E/P. Removed base gasket of.011 and shaved cylinder .015 but due to a real tight squish had to make a gasket of .008 for squish of .020. Final compression ended up being 165 PSI,not to shabby for about a couple hours worth of work and opened the E/P 3mms. Didn't bother with advancing timing as this saw runs real strong in the cut,had to lean out the highside some and this alone really woke it up alot.

The only issue I have is the oiler isn't suppling enough in the cut. Does anyone have a suggestion to remedy this to prevent over heating the chain and bar.

Sounds like a fun saw.

You running the 20" K041 bar with 70DL?  Reason I ask just making sure for oiler bar mount area.  Have you got the oiler turned all the way out to flow the most? Never seen any problems with these oiling stock.  Never ran a woods ported one.

Only ran a couple PP330 with 16" that were woods ported before in this series.

That 3.7 you have was a good oiler stock. Oil would run down the side of the bar length on the 20" GB. Chain would be wet on DL's.

I had oil running down the bar before cutting, made sure of that, tank was full and it emptied  the tank  quickly, at least that's what I thought till I looked inside the tank, still 1/4 full. Pulled plug so I could turn the engine over more easily to watch oil being pumped out and there's very little being pumped out with the tank being 1/4 full. Will look further into the problem later today. I'm using a Poulan bar, had  to remove chipped paint where the oil is pump out to made the bar mount more flush to prevent oil from being dumped on the ground and yes it's a fun saw to use, couldn't be more happier with the way it turned out.

WAG = oils good till 1/4 tank left and it is having troubles at that level getting oil out. Check to see if the strainer is stuck up somewhere not getting to bottom of tank.

Placed saw level and oil would drip out and the oil strainer was setting at bottom of tank but wouldn't pump at 1/4 level, topped off and it would pump. Well have to readjust pump volume and periodically check oil tank. I'm just not use to saw that actually supplies adequate oil  ;D

I have modified a bunch of these saws that use the same oiler and have not seen any problems.
I would say the oil pick up in the tank is not sitting low enouph and is catching air.

I know what you mean about your saw.   They are fun to run.   You will get spoiled.

It's not uncommon for the oil hose to split. You may have one in the hose towards the bottom.

Fossil, I'll empty the tank to check for a split oil hose, never occurred  to me to check that but it does pump oil now and not air ::)

I need to stop looking for saws  :P. #4 harder to fnd saws in 7 days or so.   :o

Seen ad for craftsman 3.7, figured the one I could care less about for myself.  Got a pic and I was like heck ya. The 60cc one I am into with 24" bar when new.
I have only seen 3 and maybe heard of 4 total. I have owned 2 of the 3 I seen before.  Last one I sold was to a guy here that had been searching for one for 2 years. Told him I aint married to any saws. ;)
This one had wrong bar nuts and washers but no big deal.  Also still has the craftsman 24" labeled K041 mount 3/8 bar.

Saw has Oregon 76 SL regular 3/8 chain with the small cutters.  76 on the drive links.  Oregon 76 series.

Not a fan of the SL but here is a pic of a new loop I had awhile back to show.

Under the covers it looked new with little use. Cylinder on outside looked new. But the mix had the ole smell. So I dumped and kept checking, Pulled muffler and surprised to see scuffing started. Guessing he was  running old mix.
Was curious about psi and stopped pulling at 150psi. So will be pulling down for a piston kit for this saw and use the other one in my project fun builds. Will clean cylinder up and then ball hone crosshatching.

Will be using a NOS 60cc piston for this one.

Finally got the benched cleared of other peoples stuff again. Think I am going to put this on the bench for a new nos 60cc piston  kit.    It runs now but appears to have had been run with old mix etc in past and shows some scuffing.
So going to clean the cylinder up, put fresh crosshatch with new nos piston kit.

Was still 150psi with piston in it.

Has the original 24" bar too.  Will be for sale when I am done and checked it over.  Figure new impulse and fuel line too.

Everything pulled for new owner. Now to put back on saw and get ready to ship. Freaking 24" bar making me go with a super big box. Wonder if it would be cheaper to ship bar separate. Prob not my guess.

Just got bored redoing these. Feel I could do them blindfolded or in my sleep anymore.
So passing it to someone to show it some love.
