Beautiful air brushing, but totally wasted on the MS460. Like you said who would want to use it.

It's a slick looking piece. It's something that I'd have in the showroom at the shop, but there's no reason to mod or upgrade the motor on a saw like that.

You can do alright some times .Other times not so good .

Really though I sometimes wonder exactly how many of those over priced saws and parts are actually sold and how many are just bait to keep the price up .

You used to able to watch the prices but no more .When you could after a while you could tell who was playing games .

Title: Re: ebay
Post by: Al Smith on September 07, 2011, 07:56:57 am
Well deals are where you find them .I've done okay on flea bay at times .Really though the best deals so far are either from the forums or a dealer who doesn't want to fool with a saw then try to resell them .

Keep in mind though that if it's a deal then most likely it will need some attention .Might be very little or could be a lot ,depending .

On the other hand often times you can land a non runner for a fraction of the cost it would take just to buy a few repair parts to get a saw running .Then before too long you end up like a lot of us with parts filling up boxes and you are tripping over them then can't find what you are looking for although you know darn well you have one .It happens, trust me . ;D

He will take $300 on the 610.  2 hrs away. Bring up to $500 sometimes for a nice clean like new.

I could have bought 2 of them for $125 a piece. I just dont have a use for them.  I had told a collector about the pair and he bought them and flipped them on ebay for $425 and $450 a piece.  Heck I could have done that, I thought he would keep them.  LOL Bet I dont pass the info next time to him.  :D

357 is in Oregon that explains it.  They do the same thing to a MS290 out west in the softwoods. Full  skip chain and long bars. I seen a 50cc 346 with a 28"  in video out west (I think) could have been 24".  But thinking it was 28".

I ran a 32" with full skip on a stock MS361 in spruce softwoodonce just to see  ;D.  Oiler was stingy but it worked and surprised me how well it cut.

My bet on that 700 is it probabley is by design or was modified be used as either a portable cut off or concrete saw . I'd guess the tank is for fuel ,lots of it .

When I get some time I'll go through my IPL's and see what I can find .McCulloch used a lot of powerheads for things other than saws .It might sound hard to believe but they used Mc 101 kart engine to power bomb lift devices for the US navy .

Well makes sense.Light weight ,powerfull .Fairly reliable unless it was souped which the navy absolutley would not do .I'd imagine you could throttle them down and by using a Walbro carb from a 125 say probabley run at 8-9000 rpm almost none stop .

Most 850's on flea bay go for a tad too much money .I doubt seriously if that one cost that much new . --but as I've said before I've seen cherry 850's -800's 8200 or 805's fetch upwards of 700 bucks .

You gotta remember it's flea bay .Just the other day someone was trying to pedal a crank bearing for Stihl 020 T .Just a mere$ 59 .95 a pop for a bearing you can get at a dealer for half that .

They used McCulloch engines for everything under the sun . They were just a readily available  relatively dependable light weight source of power .That alternater was probabley a high output 100 plus amp deal that would "jump start " a car engine .

What I would like to see, is the saw actually in the wood.1mm off cyl base ,intake ,transfers, exhaust modified twin port chamber exhaust. Although If you purchase a ne346 and have a saw builder modify with all the extras, you know ceremic bearings and stuff? The price isnt too bad, plus you would only have to run 100/1 mix......Jody

The 5-10 G is basically a 10-10 with a gear reduction unit .I have no idea why they would make a 3.3 cubic inch geardrive . Perhaps due to the age and mindset of the time period having switched from gear drives to direct drive saws Mac felt there was a market for it .

The 700 is a 70 CC saw and considering it's age would make a dandy firewood cutter for somebody .Keep in mind it's loud enough to raise the dead and some of them vibrate to beat the band but some do not .

It won't be quite as fast as say an 038 Mag or 044 ,372 Huskey but it will have about as much pulling power minus the speed .In good tune it's a pretty reliable saw .However keep in mind this is a 30 some year old Mac and if you're used to Europian saws it will probabley not be your cup of tea so to speak .

I have a couple of 70 cc piston port Macs .I use them occasionaly .Fact I flopped a few big dead ash this last summer with a 700 just to keep it exercised .They have enough grunt a pull a 28 inch bar  using skip chain . A 20" is about standard though .

Dan Henry had a Wankle at one time .I think it went to e-bay .It's one of those things I think they made more hype and hoopla about than was warrented .

The Wankle was an idea but it never took off .Drank fuel like a jet engine and was wimpy unless the speed could be ran high .They had problems with the rotor times and other things .However they tried them in snowmobiles ,lawn mowers ,outboard engines and heavens only knows other applications .At least one motorcycle .

Also have a look at the bidders list, specifically at user 2***e(14) who has bid a total of 17 (direct and auto bid) times in increments of 5-7$! When I see this sort of crap, I avoid the auction! Seems to me that there is always a chance they are doing this just to drive the bid up and the auction has 3 days to go! XPWs are nice saws but this is crazy! Especially for a saw that needs a top end job.

The inner spike bolt holes and the left side brake handle bolt holes are stripped out?  The inner spike is gone. . . .

With the bad P&C and the other problems, the price is already too high?

By looking at the muffler, the saw has sat for a few years.

Well not sure if I did all right or not now. I sent the invoice to the 'winner' twice, three emails, and called....everything has gone unanswered except the phone call. When I call, a young fella answer and denied being the person that won the item, but his mailing address is the same and he uses the eBay username.

I opened a claim and have to wait for whatever eBay is supposed to do, which is very vague and they sure do not contact you with answers to your questions either!  Like the fees for non-paying buyers. Re-listing and what not is also confusing.

I was wondering....do you have a 'bad buyer ' topic here?  And also, was wondering if giving real name, address and any othe contact info to warn others might be good or bad or ??

I certainly don't mind sharing useful info to keep others from having to 'deal' with this.

If it was possible, I imagine he should just be banned from there(eBay).  If he can do it this time, he'll pretty much think it's okay to do it anytime.  Problem I see with 'banning', he can always just make a new yahoo address, new username, and start all over.

She has 1 neg feedback. We don't know the whole story either. ebay always takes the buyers side. I only sell through ebay as a last resort. One time I sold a saw and I am sure I emptied the oil and fuel tanks, the buyer claimed oil leaked all over the saw and he wanted me to pay for degreaser and a new air filter that the oil ruined. I had to do what he said or I would receive neg feed back. I called BS but i did it. I rather sell parts on the bay. There are some evil ppl out there....
