Title: 394 Bar stud problem?

I have a bar stud on my 394 that doesn't want to stay in the slot. The biggest issue is when you take the bar off and then try to put it back on, it wants to push into the crank case. I have had to fish it out of the oil tank a couple times now. Are there any redneck fixes for this?    ???

Clean stud and stud hole w/brake cleaner (nonchlorinated) red stud and bearing loctite on stud.  If you can peen inside hole w/prick punch or a pointed awl.

501 81 57-01 is the correct bar bolt part number for all versions of the 394 including the EPA version. When replacing bar bolts some people just put a nut on the damaged stud and beat it out with a hammer without heat. I suppose this may work one time but over time it will pull enough metal off the inner case mounting flange, not leaving enough purchase to keep the stud in place.

What Shep said in the previous post will work, I have had to do it several times. If I am doing a rebuild that requires splitting the cases, I tap out the studs at the same time I am heating the case to remove old bearings, and tap in new studs when I heat the cases to install new crank bearings. If the saw has seen enough wood to need new bottom end bearings then what is a couple of bucks for new bar studs. I know, some folks would rather put the bearings on the crank and force it into the case but this is not how Husqvarna taught me to do it.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't planning on doing much to this saw, but I welcome a good tear down and clean up. Throw me some new bearings, seals, and gaskets in it. Fix the bar stud problem and then send it to get a good port job  ;D
