55 rancher

Old saw runs well for what it is,  Kinda surprised me honestly and I have run a bunch of them.

My dad has a 51 that he's owned for a number of years & it's always been dependable.  It just recently needed the carburetor cleaned due to it not starting but that was an easy fix.  I've thought about when/if it wears out I might swap out the piston & cylinder from a 55 for a little power boost.

IIRC a guy had a 51 with a ported 346 NE P&C at a recent GTG and it ran real well. Don't know about a 55 PC on a 51?

Two totally different bolt patterns at the base. I wonder how it was made to work????

The 51 & 346  or the 51 and 55 have different bolt patterns? I thought the 55 was what was different?

One guy put a 359 cylinder/crank and the whole bit on his 350 chassis? There was a lot of machine work involved. IMO more trouble than it was worth?

The 346 and 51 have different bolt patterns at the base, that is what I was referring to.........you sure it was a 51 with a 346 top end?

No, just a guess as I thought they were of the same family. It was a wild running 51 so maybe it was just ported? I didn't ask.

I just looked up parts and seen that it was the 51 & 55 that were the same family so I was wrong.

I did more looking and it must have been the 351 that I had the chainsaw confused with?

So many models and variations over the years.

stihlbro I remember a guy having a 351 with a 346 top.  I think that could be the saw 660mag thought was a 51.
