Have an Efco trimmer that needs a shaft and some Stihl KM parts laying around. Should have a split shaft hybrid by morning. Pics tomorrow.

That poulan pro one I was working on needed more $$$ in the motor then it was worth. I told him to buy a PHO so he could run the saw trimmer attachment.

Its alive and works. Found out that the blower and pruner attachments will not work. Efco powerhead turns in the opposite direction to the Stihl.

It was a fairly simple project. Stihl tube is bigger, 25mm. Efco is 22 or 23mm. Stihl tube was a press fit over the Efco tube. I left 10 inches of Efco tube sticking out of the powerhead to give it strength. Used the Stihl KM 90 drive shaft, KM 55 tube. Put an out Weedeater handle/barrier bar on it.

Do pics have a size limit here?

With Photobucket everything gets resized automatically and you never give it a thought.

Efco makes good trimmers. I would put them up against anything out there.

I have a Stihl FS45 that I would like to make into a FS55R. I also have a new looking FS55 that I wish was a FS55R but it would be cheaper to throw away the straight 55 and purchase a 55R almost to do either mod. The problem with a straight FS55 is that it has bike handles and you have to use a shoulder strap. The FS45 is too short for a man and too hard to start for a woman.

I have a couple old Echo gray straight shaft trimmers  (22 & 24) that I just love.

To make a 55R just put the 45 powerhead on the FS55, or buy a cheap FS38 and put it on the FS55 shaft.

The FS50 is a nice long shaft trimmer. 8 inches longer. We sell alot to guys over 6'.

We were playing with trimmers at the shop last winter. Our mechanic put a grass trimmer head on the MM55 tiller. Someone else must think like our tech. It will be a factory attachment next year.
