Title: MS192TC just won't stay running
Post by: crankincraig on November 06, 2013, 10:19:10 am
Hello everyone , sort of new here and hope someone can help me out.

I recently was given a MS192 that jumped out of a tree. It had the case  , recoil and brake / sprocket cover smashed. I replaced all the plastic but now it just won't stay running. It fires right up and idles fine and accelerates fine for the first minute or so and then looses it's acceleration and dies out. I have rebuilt the carb  (zama) and can't see anything wrong with it however the adjustment screws do not seem to do a heck of a lot when you adjust them. If I understand correctly some of theese carbs are just junk no matter what you do to them. I have been around and fixing power equipment for over 30 years and just can't seem to figure this one out. New Carb?  Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe your troubles with that saw is beyond replacing the carb.

As the 192T warms up, the there is a air leak, or pinched fuel line or gas line situation.

Another place to check is the tank vent? Confirm this by opening the gas cap when the saw stalls out on you?

Look around the carb intake manifold boot for cracks that open when stretched or for loose connections.

I have checked all the lines and can't see any problem with them. Had this completly torn down and everything looks fine. It was like new with the exception of damaged plastic. Cood compression , cylinder looks great , it can't have many hours on it before I got it.

Tank vent?
If it stalls and I open the gas cap and it starts again after that maybe the vent is clogged?
This happened to me on my dirt bike years ago
Thanks.

I think the vent on the 192T is standing up exposed in the carb air box area?

It is indeed in the airbox. Looks like a little black can on the left side kind of behind the primer bulb. Not sure I will have time to get in the shop tonight . If I get it straightened out I will post what I found. Thank you.

Well no changes , still starts and runs great for maybe a minute or so and then cuts out on what seems like a lean condition. I have been through everything multiple times and still the same thing. Checked for broken fuel lines , vent clear and working , carb cleaned and new kit installed. Only thing left that I can figure would be a crank seal that starts to leak as it warms up. Sounds like this might not be the first posting here with the same symptoms. Saw was free and don't have all that much money into it but the aggrivation it has caused makes me think a new one would have been the way to go.

I understand your frustrations, those things are a PITA to work on. Fuelline is not getting pinched when you reassemble the saw is it? I have also seen misrouted wiring cause problems Cherie it enters the handle and ground out the saw after it warms up.

Thanks Killians , I would have to say no for sure on fuel line and pinched wire. I went to youtube and there are some videos of saws there that had the same symptoms as mine is having , it definatly goes dead on a lean condition. When it dies out if I choke it it restarts no problem.

Have not had time to get back to it yet , busy week but maybe thats good to take a break from it. I will vacuum test for bad seals when I get back to it.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I'm guessing crank seal or engine pan leak  ;)

Thanks Adarondack , My guess also at this point. There is nothing else left as far as I can see. Wish I had checked when I had engine out of the old case before I put it all back together. This saw has so little time on it that I never even gave it a second thought.

Oh well , too late now to change that. Going to give it a break for a couple days and then get back at it.

Thanks to everyone here for all the help and suggestions. I will post an update when I get it straightened out , hope it might help the next guy with a simalar problem.

Got it. Crankshaft seal on the clutch side.

Starts easier , carb adjustments now working like they should and it just keeps running.

Guess I really learned a lot from this expierence.

Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions.

Good that you found and fixed your problem

The 192 is definitely the worst Stihl product to work on. Every job no matter how small takes over an hour. So, now that you have a 192 under your belt all the rest of the saws will be cake! ;D

P.S. I hate to see 015, 020 and 192 saws darken the doorway to my shop. LOL

One other thing, did you check to see if it is oiling? If the oiler isn't working you get to tear the saw completely apart to replace the oiler. No joke big PITA!

Oh yeah . Oiler working fine , actually puts out more than I would have thought. More than my old 019T if I remember correctly. Thanks again for the help guys.
