Lets see and hear about what you are using to port, muffler mod or other projects.
I just have a generic foredom motor and just hooked it up with srcarr52 modified hand piece and way more flexible sheath then the ole one I was using in the past. Hopefully he will explain more on the hand pieces he offers and also can make the shafts to work on the more expensive foredoms too.
I just use one for mainly doing muffler mods, other jobs and no porting whatsoever anymore. Was wanting the cooler running hand piece mainly because my wife uses it for hours and hours when doing her foam pumpkins. Just got it all set up yesterday with a redneck motor stand and all. Will try and grab a pic later of ready to grind set up.

I've got a Chicago tool motor with3 of the straight hand pieces from shaun and a right angle from cc specialties. I want to get an actual foredom motor that's reversible.

Depending on what type of motor it can be rewired with a DPDT switch to run in reverse. It all matters on how the primary vs. starting windings are phased if you'll get full power/speed in reverse.
Here was my arsenal of handpieces a few months ago. Since then I've added some more of the #30 style (far right of first picture) and some skinny ones (left of second picture).

Wife said the skinny would be on her want list as long as it dont get hot. She uses them a couple hours almost non-stop till she takes a break and then goes at it again over and over. So let me know Shaun / srcarr52
Also fill free to let people know what you have to offer for sale and labor wise.

I have a skinny one = Foredom #8 doesn't get real hot. It does get warm if running wide open. I like it better than my # 30.

My Foredom #8's gets hot enough to burn you after a while. I ran my AM #8 style one last night for 10 minutes full throttle and it only got slightly above room temp.
I will sell a few styles of handpieces for anyone who's interested while my supplies last.
Style 1: AM #30 handpieces shown on the right of my first picture above. They have been reworked internally such that they don't get hot like most AM ones. $17 + shipping.
Style 2: AM sorta #8 handpiece shown on the left of the second picture. Comes with 3 collets and wrench. $26 + shipping.

srcarr52 Thanks for the surprise hook up on 2 more sets. I still had to use my metal top part that screws onto motor. Threads were different.

What would be a good starter kit on these pieces? A straight shaft, and an angled piece for doing transfers? What would you recommend for a motor, and if AM what adapters or w/e that it would need. Sorry if you mentioned this stuff, just thought I would ask directly, I don't really know much about this foredom stuff. Havent done any real upper transfer work, and lowers mostly blending and port widening.

If I was going to buy a new motor I'd probably buy a mastercarver motor, but if you want to go cheap I'd find a used Foredom SR motor on eBay. I find the reverse feature necessary but others get by without it.
A Foredom #30 handpiece is a nice all around handpiece but it doesn't get into tight places and it only chucks up to 5/32". Mastercarver makes a chuck style handpiece they call the "stealth" that can chuck up to 1/4" and it's only 0.2" thicker. The Foredom #44 is a collet style that can do 1/4" and smaller if you have the collets. The Foredom #28 is a slim collet style that chucks 1/8" and smaller, it works well be still can't get into the tightest spots where the Foredom #8 shines.
Right angle handpieces are expensive. The only one I and most everyone else have found to hold up is the CC Specialites 182MC, but it will run you $300 for the head and the adapter.

Grabbed a pic of the area where wife does 90% of the carving, bench area #2. Final clean up and detail inside in mud room area. Uses a roller chair to seat in and has pumpkin in lap.
For me I just move the redneck plant hanger to my my #1 bench. Have 3 benches 8)

Thank you for the input. I will get to looking around... I didn't realize the right angle hand pieces were so pricey.

Luckily for me my fiancée is a jeweller so I have access to her workshop as long as anything I bring in there isn't dripping with grease...
I mainly use the Flexshaft for tinkering with things and am practicing my porting skills.
I haven't broken any of her tools yet... Knock on wood!

I use the $50.00 Harbor Freight model.
I was skeptical at first but have been pleasantly surprised. It's done a lot of work and still going strong.
Needs a big dose of Cableze every so often, but it does fine for my needs.
If you aren't capable of doing very good work, you don't need very good tools!!! LOL

You can do the uppers with a straight shaft Dremel but it takes a method and a long reach cutter or stone .You gotta remember you are "down milling" on one side and "up milling " on the other .It can get away from you in a heart beat .You don't have to run that thing wide open .It's not a race .
I find those long reach cutters and stones at flea markets often less than 50 cents a pop .I have no idea what they are used for. Probabley some industrial application in a robot or something .

Yes, but the best deal I've found on that head is $190. Then you still have to buy or make the adapter.

Not a bad deal on a new Foredom/Grobet. I'm happy w/mine. Picked it up a while back didn't need another but couldn't pass it up for what I paid for it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GROBET-USA-FLEXIBLE-SHAFT-MOTOR-/400706348267?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d4bf5a4eb

I know the flex shaft and bigger hand piece I got from srcarr52 is a pleasure to use on my generic motor. No vibrations like I had in my original generic set up.
I havent used the smaller one I got for the wife yet and neither has she.

I would like to get an angled hand piece for my foredom one day. Just a matter of time.

Do you still have them incase I want to set another back?

The skinny ones will get a little warm running WOT for more than 10 minutes, you can't expect much better out of the size ball bearing that's in there.
I still have #30's but I'm out of the skinny. I can get more if you want some.
-
I'll let you know IF she kills it or not. Might get some years out of it I hope.
I am the type that trys to plan for the next one just incase. Thanks man cause she is real happy with it so far. 10mins LOL almost 4hrs now with 1 break.

If you get any angle heads Shaun I am interested.

She's got stronger hands than me then, 10 minutes and my hand is cramping.

Shes been at it for over 5hrs today so far.

One thing she said she misses. She had a adjustable collet before. Wonder if anything like that out there for the small one.
She uses some bits I can barley even see because so small. So she has to use another hand piece on electric for that right now.
