Title: Small 40cc saw with metal dawg husqvarna 435 ?
Post by: Cut4fun . on January 08, 2014, 02:32:46 pm
Talking with a ole friend of mine last night about chainsaws. Turns out he to has a echo 3900 he uses for trimming duties and a husky 455 for his bigger firewood duties.

He was telling me he has been happy with the 3900 except for one thing. ( I never noticed this on the 2 I had).  The little 3 PLASTIC  dawg on them. He said I want a small light saw around same 39cc with a metal dawg in a husky.

I recommended a 435.   Only thing I cant remember if the 435 I think 660mag brought over for me to tune and test had a metal dawg.  Any help on this and do you think I gave a wise replacement info to the friend?

If it is truly a 435 or a 435E the metal inner dog is  part number 544 28 65-01 $5.13 and the outer
does not appear to be available. If there ever was one!

Don't forget the screws to hold the dawg on?

That 435 had NK chain/bar.

Had to tune it a couple more times for his fuel mix was different and then had to tune it again when the weather got cold but no problem, I have the magic screw (splined) driver I got from HL Supply..

It is a strato. Runs good in the wood. Can not imagine what EPA was thinking with the splined screws? I suppose he could take it to the Husqvarna dealer and get it back two months later after they adjust the high needle? Certainly cannot get it adjusted at the big box store where his son bought it.

+1 on the screws, did you notice that Husky used to tell you the screw size and length in the IPL? Not any more, I suppose that is to try to keep us from buying them from McMaster Carr LOL, not working in my case.

I was just asking about dawg, because I cant remember. Did the 435 come with metal inner dawg new?  That was 1 of the 3 things that was a must have on the new saw.
Just has to have the inner one.

Good deal.

He is suppose to bring in the old chain for the 3900, so I can make him one up.
I got a good laugh from the storys of trying to buy a chain for it at the HD, Lowes, etc and then him using the same size file on the full 3/8 and 325 chains to sharpen with.
I been trying to straighten him out before he retires in 6 months.

What does he want the spike for? Is it to make him look like a real logger or to use as a fulcrum when the chain dulls?

Havent tried the PS3 or PS on my 3900 even. Would be a good candidate though.
3900's came with .325 and going to use 33LG for his chain (have partial roll).  His 3900 had 33SL on it.

No clue what he wants a dawg for on a small saw.  I would bet on last choice though  ;).  Didnt ask, just trying to hook the man up with what he wants.
