I took a bunch of pictures today of my Poulans to document their weights.
They are power head only and have all the fluids drained.
They all have what the saw came with like bucking spikes, bar plates, and chain brakes. ETC.
The saws that did not come with chain brakes do have hand guards and are mounted on the Power head.
If any one has a picture of a Poulan model with the weight that has not been listed yet please feel free to add it.
-
This first one is a Poulan 335. These did not come with chain brakes on them or least a lot of the ones I have never had them.
-
This one here is a Poulan 3750 and it did not come with a chain brake from the factory.
-
This one is a Poulan 445 which came with chain brake.
-
This is a Poulan 475 which has a full wrap handle and double bucking spikes.
-
This one is a Poulan 505 with chain brake.
-
This one is a Poulan 3700, no chain brake did not come with one.
-
This is a Craftsman or poulan 3800. No chain brake on this. I mention this saw because the 3700 has a
magnesium clutch cover and this one is plastic.
-
This one is a Poulan 395 that came with a chain brake from the factory.
-
This one is a Poulan 375 and came with no chain brake.
-
This one is a Poulan 3450 and came with no chain brake.
-
This one is a Poulan 4400 and came with no chain brake.
-
This one is a Poulan 5200 and came with no chain brake.
-
This is a Poulan 306A and came with no chain brake but does have the bucking spike.
-
This one is a Poulan 295 and came with the chain brake and a bucking spike.
-
This one is a Poulan 260 and has a chain brake and a bucking spike.
-
This one is a Poulan wild thing 40cc that came with chain brake but no bucking spike.
-
This one is a Poulan 330 that came with a chain brake. I have seen with and with out.
-
This one is a Poulan 205 top handle saw. No chain brake no bucking spike.
-
This one is a Poulan 365 with no chain brake. Once again I have seen them with and without a brake.
-
Sweet. Very neat to see all of these.
Some are right there with the newest saws out there in weight.
295 surprised me being less then the 260.
Thanks..............................

Good stuff Roger!

I will double check that, I had not noticed. I have more I can do and will add to the list.
I double checked the weight on that Poulan 260 to make sure I did not miss something. It is correct.
-
This one is a Poulan 335 predator. It came with a chain brake.
-
Wow! That's some "Poulan Army" you have there. Nice to know the 3.7 I have coming won't weigh much more than my 5020. Nice collection ;) Out of curiosity, how does the 3700 compare to the later versions of equal CCs in the cut,etc ?
-
I think the Poulan 3700's do pretty good myself. They are not as high revving as some of the newer saws and so probably will not cut as fast but they are still alright by me.
-
Physical stats are not the whole picture with a chainsaw. I have some saws that would never win a cookie race but they are great to use in the woods.

I like that.
-
The cookie cutting business isn't my style. I was merely trying to get a comparison how the two styles of the 3700 and 3750 differentiate when cutting, like engine torque, vibrations, weight balance, etc, etc. When you buy a saw unseen, you kinda wonder if you made the right purchase decision ;D

If I am out and running the 3700 and the 3750 I have to admit I like both of these saws pretty good. With good sharp chains on both of them I do not know if you will be able to tell that much of a difference in cutting speed. I have more of the 3700 type series Poulans than I do of the 3750.

This one here is a Poulan S25DA. No brake and no bucking spike did not come with either.
-
This one here is a Poulan 2000. No chain brake no bucking spike did not come with either.
-
Those last 2 weighed more then I would have guessed. Thanks for info.

They're a bit heavy (especially the XXV series). That's the main area where some of the modern tophandles are ahead of them. I'm eager to see what an S25-CVA weighs. Gotta be heavier than the non-CVA variant. I need to pick up a good inexpensive scale for shipping (and this sort of thing)....

The scale I am using is made for shipping. It works great because the platform is large enough to set a saw on.
-
I bought a 2000 new in 94 and was guessing high 7's 7 3/4 or so. The S25DA I would have guessed 1lb more then the 2000 so I was basically off by about 1lb PHO on each.
-
Thanks for posting that. Is that predator decal available anywhere? I fixin to warm up some 2700 that decal would be awesome!

I went through my parts list and do not show a part number for that decal. If you could find the part number it might still be around.
-
This one is a Poulan 3500. It came with a bucking spike but no chain brake.
-
Anyone got the PHO weight dry on the Poulan 2300cva
-
Poulan 5020 PHO weight.
Also Roger going to pin this post at the top. Thanks for doing this for us.
-
Thank you very much Kevin.

That result surpriced me as well!
Have anyone put a PP325 empty PHO on a scale?
-
This here is a Poulan 2300 firewood type III. It looks very close to the 2300 CVA to me.
-
Thank You for the 2300cva weight.
-
Very Cool.....
-
Cool thread. Thanks for all the pics and weights. I'm learning about the old Poulans so I know which ones will make good addictions, I mean addions to my collection.
-
Bump to show how a sticky thread of weights by brand work.
Roger 3000fps did a great job on this here for us.
-
poulan 361 weight
-
Poulan PP4018WT 40 cc Wild Thing - 11.81 lbs
Commerce Scale Check Weight - 10.00 lbs
-
Another poulan 5020 pho weight with some oil residue.
-
Poulan 5400 pho weight
Poulan 505 pho weight
Poulan 5400 85cc, Poulan 505 83cc. I never compared the 8500 when I had it on hand last year for size and weight. I just knew it was heavier then I like now days. So this time after getting 5400 ready to ship I did the same to the 505. Drained of fluids and aired off under covers etc. Both bar plates inner outer and clutch covers with both bar nuts for PHO weights.
.2 = 3.2ounces and .8 = 12.8ounces
I noticed me and Rogers PP505 weights posted here are within 2.8ounces of each other. = Good enough for me.
-
Those numbers don't surprise me. The 5400 is built like a tank.......while the 505 is a bit fragile. There's no free lunch...
-
I never realized they were so dang heavy. Great in the cuts though.
I have sold any saw that has been 16.5lbs and up PHO. I just cant take the weight. Being these are in the 18lb range its a no brainer for me.
Heck I almost dropped it just lifting 5400 to the bench. = I got a freaking pinched nerve on the left side and half my dang hand stays numb now. Somewhere in left neck, to left shoulder, to elbow then hand.
I'll stick to the fragile :D 83cc . Even kept it over the 385 being they cut about the same in cut and 505 saved me the weight.
I have yet to fubbar a tank like some ham fisted folks do. I know their weakness areas. :P
-
This is a Poulan 475 which has a full wrap handle and double bucking spikes.
Very cool to see that weight Roger. These old post coming in handy. The 505 with full wrap and big dawg set will put me right at my wanted weight limit.

When it comes to the weakness on the 505 my only complaint is the clutch cover. I still have the one I am using for milling and no issues with it at all.

To me and what I see on the saws that come in is from folks yanking on the rear handle and breaking the upper right av and upper left av. Then they break the plastic part that the handle runs down through from that. I'll show a pic.
Yep on the plastic clutch cover too, but you have one them good metal ones now. ;)
-
Yes I do have a metal one but I have 5 different saws I could use it on. Thanks.
-
I'm down to 2 metal ones from 4. Sold a red nos and yellow nos. Figured I can only use 1 at a time and run a plastic on a back up saw if same series with me.
-
Poulan 245 PHO weight dry cleaned of gunk. No brake but does have outer spike.
