Sometime ago I bought a Craftsman 3.0 with a scored P&C. For $20 I figured the bar and chain, the air filter and other assorted parts would be worth the money.
While I'm waiting for a flywheel to pop (long story) on a red Swedish saw I thought I would have a look at the P&C so I pulled it down. The cyl is unplated with a plated piston. Since  I never intended to make this a runner I thought I would at least (for and experience) try to clean up the cylinder and piston and see what I got. I put the cylinder on and ended with 120 lbs compression. Any idea what will happen when it's run?
I don't know if it will last or not. I pulls over pretty smooth. I figure all it will cost is a fuel line, impulse line and a carb kit.
I know it's kind of redneck. Any idea what the compression should be on these saws?

Let me know Kevin. I'm going to fire this sucker and see what happens. Can you imagine a better loaner saw?

I can think of many other saws I'd lend out before the poulan ;)
just think of how depressed you'd be if it came back ruined. or (like me), person brings back money and says they're keeping it :)

Well, at least they can't do much more to the P&C. I don't think I've ever had anyone ask to borrow a saw. I would only lend one to two people I know. One treats all equipment like it was gold. Everything he has looks new and runs like a top. The other is a very good mechanic who knows his stuff. hey both already have good saws. The rest of them wuld give cause for concern in the area of safety. One guy's wife bought him a saw for Christmas and he ended up with a 7 sticth cut unpacking it. He didn't think the chains had sharp things on them. He wife took it back.
