I'm looking at these used saws, both in very good cosmetic and great running condition. Not bright and shiny because they've been used but they've been taken care of. I'd like opinions on these saw models, their strengths and weaknesses, things I should look for specific to these models, etc. I don't know Husky saws so any tidbits will be helpful.
What price range should I be in on these? Very subjective I know, but just need a ballpark since I'm not familiar with Husky saws. My condition descriptions are based on what I have seen here, AS and FF classified forums. Thanks everyone

Both are very nice saws from the same design family. The main differences in the saws is open vs. closed port most 268s being open and the 272 being closed. The 272 would be my choice depending on condition however keep in mind that a 268 can become a 272 in a matter of a couple hours work! The 272 makes a little less torque than a quad port 372 but is in a smaller more nimble package.
Any of the 2 series saws have a less effective AV package than the 3 series saws.

Kevin had a 272 that he made up and I thought it was pretty close to a 372 in the speed of cut. You'd have to time them to be sure? But the different balance is another story and would sway an individual's preference. One is a inboard clutch and the other a outboard clutch. There are other factors that get into the picture like availability and cost of parts.

If I make the swap I'll be getting both saws. Plenty of Husky dealers around here so parts won't be a problem and I do my own work. I'm looking for opinions of these saws and hopefully, some rough, ballpark prices on each. I haven't found any of these on any forum searches. Ebay shows them from 200 to 500 and since the latter is always a Buy It Now price, it's not necessarily an accurate reference.

Look on Ebay and do a advanced search for the SOLD listings and see what they actually went for.

The 268 will have a closed port top end if it is a SE, XP or Special (provided that the top end is the original one). ;)

Agreed Nikko, in all the time I have been doing the saws I have only seen one with a factory CP cylinder and it was a Special, never have I seen in my shop a 268 marked XP or SE specifically. Do you have any idea what percentage of the production were closed port.
I have seen really pristine examples of 268s go for in excess $500!

I am not really sure that there ever was a 268 sold as a SE, but at least the earliest XP ones said 268SE on the number tag.
Also, at least some Specials said XP on the number tags (the saws were the same, but the designation was changed to Special, after the 272XP replaced the 268XP).
