Title: UVa/UVb Blocker
Post by: KilliansRedLeo on February 26, 2014, 04:25:12 pm
A customer of mine is a rep for New-Penn shipping. His company handles the shipping for a local chemical coatings company who specializes in automotive and marine coatings. IDK the company name yet. However I asked Bob if he would ask about the availability of some sort of non-abrasive coating that could be applied to plastic and painted surfaces by hand that would help block the UV in sunlight that bleaches out our saws.

Well evidently they do make something that is supposed to do that. Bob brought me a unmarked quart bottle of some sort of goo that they produce for the marine industry. Supposed to last one season in the marine environment. Not intended as a color restorer only as a UV inhibitor. I tried it on an old faded top cover, it did not restore the color, it did however make the surface very very slick. Not sure if one would want the stuff on the rear handle as it may be hazard to safety.

So, I am going to start applying a coat to every saw that comes in here and we will see if the stuff does what they say! I will report back when we start seeing or not seeing any results.

Here is a picture of the foul smelling goo!
