Post by: Bob on April 01, 2014, 01:57:41 pm
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find new or good used parts for a Pioneer p41?  Thought I found parts on ebay but they had already sold.
Looking for the following:
47355 piston
430410 rings
430924 cylinder head or cylinder head kit
Thank you,
Bob

I rebuilt a P-41 a year or so ago, these guys had all the parts I needed in stock.

Thanks Killian,
Rottman's said it comes as a kit, the kit contains a flywheel, cylinder and coil, piston and rings are additional and you have to change the flywheel &coil for the new cylinder.
Do you have to replace your cylinder & piston?
Thank you,
Bob

The need to replace the C/P depends on if your is messed up. I did the whole thing because that is what the customer wanted. Some of the very early ones used points ignition. My recommendation would be to go to electronic ignition which requires a different cylinder that is why it is in the kit. Also make sure you replace the reeds and reed box gasket.

If you have never run a P-41, you will like it, very nice powerful saws!

Thanks Killians,
Yes piston & cylinder are trashed, flywheel and coil are ok, was just wondering why they to be replaced because of the new cylinder? Does the new piston have to go in a certain way, in other words does it matter which side of the piston faces the exhaust port?
Was a favorite saw of mine, took good care of it till I loaned it to my father pretty sure he put regular gas in it when he gave it back had no compression.
This is becoming a costly restore.
Thank you for all your help I really appreciate it.

Bob, too bad about the raw gas situation. Yes the piston only goes in one way, there is usually an arrow on the top of the piston that is supposed to point to the exhaust port.

I don't know about the P-41 but some western European chainsaw pistons have the arrow pointing towards the intake side with a big capital "E" imprinted at the arrow. The "E" is for Enlass or "Intake" in English.

The bottom line is to look for the ring pins. The ring pins must be where they do not come across a port!

Tommysp1 has pioneer parts as well. This is a member on this site. Have you already torn down the saw and confirmed that the p/c are toast? I don't remember if the p 41 had a compression release or if it had the automatic release engaged by the rope pulley but these could be problems if you don't already know if the p/c are bad....
