Title: Help, my chainsaw :(

I have a Ryobi PCN-3335 Petrol 33cc Chainsaw.

To cut a long story short I needed to strip down my chainsaw. All that remains is the main chassis plus piston, crankshaft and clutch. The cylinder head has been removed.

My problem which I done in my ignorance is take off the cylinder head without thinking about the piston ring on the piston. :o

Picture 2.jpg shows you the flywheel at the bottom of the photo plus piston oil sump and crankshaft
Picture 6.jpg shows you the brake cable plus the clutch

My problem is I am struggling to insert the piston into the cylinder head. CAn anyone help me?
I have mentioned picture 6 as I may need to take off the clutch, but I dont know how without risking damage to the chainsaw. Any help given to me I would be grateful for.

Post by: 660magnum on June 01, 2014, 03:46:14 pm: The rings have locating pins that place the ring gap in between the port openings.

The ring gaps must be aligned about these pins or they will not compress flush against the piston so it will go up inside the cylinder.

I've used a big zip tie to hold the ring in so I can get the piston up inside the piston.

When the ring goes in - the zip tie falls around the connecting rod whereby you cut the zip tie off.

Post by: 660magnum on June 01, 2014, 03:59:36 pm: The clutch has left hand threads. It has to come off first or there is no way to hold the crankshaft to keep it from turning

-Cut a 1 inch strip out of a plastic two litre pop bottle and use it as a ring compressor.

660, he might be just like the rest of us, buy a new saw, run it a little bit, then tear it apart and put it back together just to see what it is made of. I bought a brand new 562XP and a 543XP from Spike60 and right out of the box tore them apart and put them back together before I started either one, still have not had time to put either in wood!
