Title: The end of Solo
Post by: Cut4fun . on July 19, 2014, 05:01:29 pm
Just read this.

The explanation

Article dated Solo 1958-2014.

Important changes at the SOLO Kleinmotoren GmbH
The Swabian medium-sized company AL-KO GERÄTE GMBH is strengthening its Garden + Hobby division in the product groups of chainsaws, motor trimmers and gardening devices with the acquisition of the Sindelfingen-based SOLO Kleinmotoren GmbH. “The quality SOLO products, with their tradition-rich and strongly specialized brand, perfectly match our philosophy ‘Quality for Life’. With the integration of SOLO we strengthen our specialized dealer network and competencies, especially in the area of gasoline chainsaws and motor trimmers”, says AL-KO Board Member Stefan Kober.

Subject to the required antitrust law approval, as part of an asset deal AL-KO will acquire the complete range of the product group “Gardening and Forestry Equipment” from SOLO as well as the associated trademark rights. As of now SOLO Kleinmotoren GmbH will entirely concentrate on plant protection equipment and angle grinders. Andreas Emmerich, manager at SOLO: “With AL-KO we have found a buyer who will continue the SOLO brand for gardening and forestry equipment through specialist dealers in our tradition and with our name, but will make it even stronger with new ideas and developments. In future we will focus ourselves on plant protection equipment, with which SOLO has been successful since 1948, and on our new product line of cut-off machines. These two product groups will continue to be developed, produced and distributed globally under the SOLO brand from our location in Sindelfingen.” For the distribution of plant protection equipment in Germany and France AL-KO will support SOLO Kleinmotoren GmbH within the framework of a co-operation agreement. These are steps which set the course for further partnership co-operation between the companies in the future.

From the middle of the year the gardening and forestry equipment from SOLO will be produced at the Austrian production location of Obdach in Styria, where AL-KO already manufactures high quality lawnmowers and tractors. In this way the product quality and flexible product supply can also be guaranteed in the future.

With the SOLO gardening and forestry equipment AL-KO is aiming for a substantial increase in dealer sales in the future. The existing AL-KO dealer range will be expanded with saws and trimmers through the SOLO products. “We will launch our best quality products under an exclusive specialist dealer brand by combining the best of SOLO and AL-KO. The customers of the specialist dealers thus profit from the know-how of two strong and tradition-rich providers in one product range”, says Wolfgang Hergeth, manager of AL-KO GERÄTE GMBH, outlining the advantages.

I wanted to report production in Sindelfingen to you about the end of the Solo power saws.
I had to look the big luck in Sindelfingen a look in the work and in the research laboratory at that time. I have found some very nice prototypes of chain saws and test engines there.
WOW!!!
What trip were still quite big in the 60s and 70s as Solo chain saws.

Here maybe we can show once again the chain saw history from Solo and the nicest chain saws from Sindelfingen.
The best greetings Peter

Bigger picture, wondering what this means for DolKita, since they were/are designed by Solo. It also looks that the brand name SOLO and some of its' products will remain but be produced by two company merger/sale.

Hate to see another brand disappear, but this is how it goes. Remaining unsold product on dealer shelves might be of some interest to guys here in the enthusiast world, but it's a sure dead end for the typical end user. What there is of a dealer base will soon wither away, so parts and service at a local level will be history. How far down the road Solo USA will continue to supply parts is probably up in the air. They will stay as a sprayer company. I'd be totally shocked if the new company has any intent on marketing saws here in the US. It's not as if they would be following an operation that had it's #### together. :)

Might be some info here.

I´m still glad that some big box stores have taken Solo saws for sale. You can indeed get all Solo models from here - from small engine -specialized shops that sell Solo. Teräosa is importer for Solo from 2012 -> http://www.teraosa.fi/, I ordered from mr. Jääskeläinen - http://www.jaaskelainen.fi/konekipina/

What i´ve understood, Solo saws from mid-year 2014 will be produced in Austria:   it seems so that since this year the machines were built in Austria.

"Die Garten- und Forstgeräte von solo werden ab Jahresmitte am österreichischen Produktionsstandort Obdach in der Steiermark produziert, wo AL-KO heute schon hochwertige Rasenmäher und Traktoren fertigt. Damit können die Produktqualität und die flexible Produktversorgung auch künftig sichergestellt werden." -> http://www.al-ko.com/de/solobyalko/solo-ist-jetzt-solo-by-al-ko/

I noticed that some of the Solo boxes had text "Made in Germany" and other had´nt. I ordered mine from a small engine workshop, who sells Echo and Solo.
I don't know the quality differences from the new built Solos made on Austria or germany but I am nearly sure that they still were all built in Sindelfingen germany. ?
