Title: Poulan micro XXV
Post by: countryhog on July 30, 2014, 11:03:06 pm

Just rebuilt a Micro XXV with newer p&c and seals and cleaned out the oiler check valve, replaced oil line, replaced foam oil filter, and made gaskets for the oiler. Also had to fool with the crank/rod needle bearings as they had and executed an escape plan. Let's just say there wont be any skeeters around. I'm guessing it's burning bar oil.  Or, could it be the oiler check valve? Need some help here. Per the SM there is no gasket between the case halves.  First thought it was the grease I used to hold the bearings in place but after a few mintes decided that's probly not it.

Look at the check valve

Bar oil smokes an awful lot.

I believe the oiler works off of impulses going into the oil tank and the check valve is there to prevent oil from going back into the crank case.

Stubnail67 has a bunch of these saws, maybe he has some more info.

when you say you cleaned the check valve whats that mean?there is supposed to be a duck bill in the check valve.........if a bunch of black gunk come out????if so i would think its that.....those symptoms are usually broken oil line or check valve shot,,,,

I sprayed it with some brake cleaner cause I didn't have any carb cleaner. Guess I probly melted the check valve. Gotta go dig through my pile now. Got an idea from acornhill on AS bout how to fix it. Gonna try and see. Btw which direction does the duckbill point-to the screen or away? Thanks yall

Yeah Jerry both carb cleaner and brake cleaner are NOT what you want to clean those duckbills with.  It was probably decaying already............but you likely finished it off....
