Title: dolmar dealer
Post by: pigpen60 on September 10, 2014, 02:26:58 pm
now don't get me wrong I like my dolmar dealer/mechanic but I think he either doesn't want to or doesn't know how or something in between. when I asked if I could take the cat muffler off my 5105 and retune with the non cat muffler he said it wasn't possible, I asked why and he said the carb didn't have enough adjustment. same thing on my 6421. whats your thoughts on all the above? im going to have to get a tach and learn how to do this myself.

Where do you live state wise? Maybe a member that can help you lives close by.  If you were here I know 660mag and me would help you tune and shoot the crap.

im in foley, mo. my dealer 10-15 miles south of me. I went with dolmar because he was closest, he showed me the saw he had in the shop and explained all the good points and said parts availability was good. I have a husky dealer and 3 or 4 stihl dealers/shops within 25-30 miles. never got a warm fuzzy from them.

In the past, I just ordered the parts from the dealer. I considered it none of his business what I did with them. I don't know that there would have been any trouble anyway but didn't want any trouble.

5100s muffler is a direct bolt on and retune the carb(not much difference in my experience) and 6400 cat to non cat is a direct bolt on but you need a the top bolt and spacer that goes to the non cat muffler plus that front support bracket gets left off. retune is mandatory on these.

I would not blame the dealer entirely they probably have some kind of rules or guide lines that they have to stick to and so they play it safe.

I don't blame him for anything, he convinced me to buy my 5105 and I think its an animal!

Yes, my 5105 is a little faster by the stop watch than my stock 346XP NE

I have a little problem getting used to the sound. been using a poulan 3050 for 20 years, doesn't sound the same.
