Hey guys, we are in our second year of firewood business. we currently run 2 Jonsered CS 2255 and have been pretty satisfied with them. I am now in need of a larger saw for some bigger timber we are getting into. Looking at the Jonsered CS2172 70cc, is it worth the price tag of $800.00? or are their better options for a large saw of the same approx. size. Thanks Jason

What size bar are you going to be running?
-
The CS2172 is a very good choice for a 24" - 71cc chainsaw
-
Check out the 2166 too. Same cc just detuned with divider in transfer port. Can be removed if you want later.
-
it's a 24 in bar /
Cut 4 Fun can you elaborate ? benefits and what it does?
Thanks
-
The 2172 and the 2166 are the same saw except for the transfer covers on the side of the cylinder.
-
Grinding the restrictors in the transfer covers makes the 2166 a 2172. I have the Husqvarna version and I like it for larger firewood especially when noodling.
-
365xt = 2166 = 372 2172 same cc Bet there is divider in 2166 shown here. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-365-xt/
2166 used to be under 600. Betting hair over now.

I've done the conversion of a 365XT to a 372XT, easy peasy. Your Dremel and a tamper proof T-20 Torx driver is all you need to do it, takes an hour or two. IMO the XT saws make a little more torque than the XP version.

I see what you mean, but the 372XT actually is designated 372xpXT. ;)

Of course there is no such thing as a single "best" firewood saw, as it will vary a lot with the wood and other conditions! ;D
-
The BEST firewood saw is one with a nice sharp chain...if it happens to be on a 372 then its even better ;D
-
Have to get Spike60 involved...
SO best firewood saw for 98 percent of us is the 2258.... :)
For those blocking big wood... its a tossup between the 2166/2172 and 2188 when the bar length gets in the 28 inch range.
Low budget.. 2166. Making a good living off firewood from big logs, go with the power 2188.
( For me... I have a 555 but usually use a project saw. Today a Fugly 350 derivative along side a tweaked Jonsered 920 )
-
I'm with Walt on the 2258. With a 20" bar MSRP is $650, there's a $100 rebate until the
end of September making it $550. That's $200 less than a MS362, making it a hard combination
of performance and price to beat.

Did you guys miss the part where OP already owns 2 Jonsered CS 2255 and wants a bigger saw to pull min a 24" ((( larger saw for some bigger timber we are getting into))).

Some apparently did. That really leaves only the 2172/2166 and the 2188 to choose from, imo.

For my winter time firewood cutting my Jonsered heated handle saws are a 2171wh, 2156cwh and two 2153cwh's.
-
I'm now too old to be out cutting in weather like that to need a heated handle. I do have a Dolmar 6800iH though.
-
I would rather cut wood in the cold. we did a bunch of cutting this summer and that was miserable
-
Right now is about right for me now.
-
about 25F, no wind and sunny, carhartt bibs and a hoody, shades....

Yep, doesn't get much better weather to be out cutting.
