Post by: sawmandave on October 03, 2014, 12:04:03 am
I was called to come to the aluminum shed at my local junk yard , and they told me they had a cool saw for me , when I walked in the building I almost passed out .
It amazes me what people toss just to get a couple of bucks ! :o

Larry Steiner has a big McCulloch about like that big bow .The only one I ever saw .Some place I've got a picture of Gypo and myself running it . I could never figure out what good they were as compaired to a normal saw .A regular plunge bow was made for pulp wood cutting ,that other gizmo who knows .

Yes that is a oiler on top , plus the plunge cut bow is for cutting down from what I think , most of these bows are sloped back from the spike plus the spike is long for hanging on the side of the tree .
the tear drop style bow came out later so it would be easier to buck small logs on the ground , I have tried to use the plunge cut bow on logs on the ground and you end up pushing the saw way to far forward to finish cutting the stick of wood , but these style bows were early and on learning curves , the tear drop style bow is flat out fun to cut with and is a back saver , they were also super dangerous !!!!!
At logging shows down here on the south I have seen some nasty scars from these pulp wood bow cutting guides !!!!!!

Does the chain jump off and wrap around your arm?
