Title: Craftsman 3.7 Not a roper
Post by: jimstihl on November 30, 2014, 09:01:11 pm
What's a guy got to do to get his hands on a set of rings for this cool old saw? I've been searching all forums, Im getting confused with the chrome plated piston and aluminum bore? All parts houses say they are nla? Mine has thick rings? Maybe a poulan 3800? Getting ready to ord some  cabers off weedeaterman by size and take a chance? Would this be wise choice as I'm confused with the aluminum bore ? Any advise will be very helpful at this point !  Thanks    Jim

What is the model number? If it starts with 358 you have a Poulan.

I have and under the piston rings it comes up nla/ But if I wanna buy a piston kit I can have some new rings ?? This saw only needs rings as the air filter was shady!! The saw looks brand-new and on my snap on gauge its only hitting 95psi but still runs out somewhat ok // But thanks for all the help I can get from this site guys !!   Jim

If it has two thick rings then it is a 3800.   Do you have a parts list for a Poulan 3800?

Poulan 3800 has two thick rings and an aluminum bore.   Randysenginerepair on eBay has a set of rings for 17.99 and free shipping.

The 3800 should be around 125 psi on the compression.

Roger I just want to make sure that I got this right.

Poulan 3700 3800 same bore?

3700 chrome bore.

3700 thin rings or thick?

3800 bare bore.

3800 chromed piston.

3800 think rings.
