Title: 2100 piston husqvarna
Post by: Cut4fun . on February 08, 2015, 05:50:13 pm
I know about the thin ring and the thick ring oem pistons. Read where you was wanting a aftermarket by meteor even in thick ring would be OK.

Whats wrong with these Episan 2100 pistons?  Out of stock right now it shows.    http://www.dlastore.com/e_store/piston-kit-fit-husqvarna-298-1100-cd-2100-2100-cd-2101-jungle-type-56mm.html

I have no experience with Episan or VEC pistons.  Haven't seen 2100 Episan pistons in stock for a while either.  The AM slugs I've seen on ebay have been no-name (maybe VEC)?  I won't risk my cylinder on a piston I know nothing about.  Have you used Episan and/or VEC pistons?

i have used plenty of the VEC pistons with good results. heavier in most cases that i have weighed them but otherwise a useable piston that has yet to fail on me. i even have a few test mules out that i used the supplied rings.  I started using them before i knew any  better and since i had no problems with them i have continued using them

Thanks for the input on VEC pistons.  Were all the measurements in spec?

first couple dozen i used i have no idea. I never checked. Again i wasnt all that well informed and was jsut learning. Last couple years i havent used near as many( switched to meteor) but they have all been in spec as best as you can measure with calipers. wrist pin has always slid right through with no binding and circle clip grooves have always been nice. They are not OEM or meteor quality but i would never hesitate to use them in a stock saw. Worst offense that i have found is leftover casting flash on an edge here and there that needs buffed off. Northwood carries them but doesnt label them as VEC in the descriptions. they are labeled as high quality import and usually around $29. Which since the first of the year makes them less appealing since Stihl lowered their prices and Chris started carrying Meteor at great prices.

I have also used Mako pistons which arent bad looking for the money but the circle clip grooves are horrible.
Raisman Platt are horrible too. used 2 of them and both had the ring locating pin drilled all the way through the piston. i called and they said it was normal and they would warranty if a problem came up so i used it. still going strong but i wont use another.

Thank you for your insight from your experiences with the VEC pistons.  Makes me feel more comfortable about trying one with one of my cylinders.

I'm hoping somebody can share their observations and opinions of Episan pistons too.

Aaron. I use the Episan pistons when I cant get a Meteor. Good quality too IMO.

I would use an Episan over a VEC.

Really the best piston to use in a 2100 if you can machine the cylinder base is a 394 or 395 piston.

I posted the above pic in another 2100 p thread to see if anyone recognize it.

Turtle might be onto something.  = looks like the one grits&gravy got that was a mahle.

That "Mahle" piston has me suspicious.  Box and packaging look similar to what Little Red Barn has been shilling for a while (with the exception of the "Original Mahle" lettering.

There's no damn way that Mahle would be selling pistons to an outfit that sells out of Singapore too.

LRB has sold pistons sourced from factories in Taiwan, Mainland China, and India IIRC....

Shaun brought that up about that mahle one just being a fake copy like the one I showed. Except it is being sold as a mahle.

scarr = I was referring to the ones Turtle bought. China made copies are getting sneakier every day. They even get the marking and boxing correct.

Found grits and gravy post on the aftermarket  mahle pistons with the meteor price.  Pics above.

Amazing how they look just like that sing cheap one I found.

GG = In my quest for an episan 2101xp piston I ordered a couple that I only had pictures of which looked like episan, this was just a gamble as I am getting kind of desperate.. Once they got dropped off by the mailman they were in fact not episan, but mahle brand... They look to be better quality than any other AM piston I have ever purchased, I assume this is due to the fact that mahle built quite a bit of the big name OEM stuff..

I only purchased 2 which was all they had on the shelf, but I am working on trying to purchase more through this same seller.

If anyone on here is interested in buying one let me know and I will try to get as many as I can.

If I can in fact get more I will reship them at my cost to any needing however many they need... Cost is on par with meteor but might get cheaper with a big buy.

They might be chicom but they do look like decent quality castings. I'd give one a shot.

The ones in sing show 5 in stock and $33 shipping for all 5 or $7 for 1.  So $20 total to check one out to try.

I think the 2 GG bought are the 2 bought from the 15 on june 24 2 bought together. They do all appear to be the same piston IMO.  If I was into the 2100 I would try one myself too. In a stock saw for sure.

I have been trying stuff like these before and some still holding up. Even though I know better to run their rings and circlips. I did just to see. So far so  good for  firewood cutting use.

$15 to my door 066 piston I have been using as compete set.  Doing same thing with a BB372 piston.

More good info from GG. = I think the 2 that sold June 24 are the two I purchased.

They weren't marketed or represented to be mahle brand when I ordered them, but when they got here they were in the mahle box I posted the pic of.

There is no real way to know if the two I purchased are in fact genuine mahle or a Chinese knockoff but I will say this... The pistons are very nice, far better quality than any aftermarket piston I've ever seen. I haven't ran one yet but from looking and measuring I'd say the two pistons I got are better quality than episan, meteor, and certainly better than golf or any if the others like VEC.

The castings are beautiful, smooth and no flash, the machine work is clean and on size.. There is no size variance over .0001" between the two pistons I have.

Even if the two I got aren't mahle I'd like to know what they are, I'd certainly buy more of them even if they put in a black box with black letters that says "piston" on it.

Aaron dont you have some 2100 projects needing pistons? Maybe get one of these $20 pistons to check and try out?

3 pistons left $13 and ship from Singapore, randy bought 2 to check out. Be neat if they are the same as the ones GG bought for for $28.

I have almost enough parts to build three 2100's now.

One will be getting an NOS p/c (that was spendy, but...).

A second will probably get a 395XP Meteor piston (and I'll probably contract our friend Srcarr52 to make that work and perform his magic on it if he's willing).

I'll build the third one with either a good used slug that I have or one of these AM slugs if they pass closer inspection.  I'll keep the first two saws and sell the third...

That'll leave me with one spare used jug.

Those rings are hard to come by. I'd almost grab a set just to have. I need to check with the old husky dealer and see if he has any thin rings for the 181 and 2100.

If he has a set of thin 181SE rings beyond what you're needing please let me know.  I'd like to put a set aside...

Just in case anyone interested so you dont have to file the Homelite or Mac rings to use in the 181 thin rings.  I stumbled across a guy with a 181 graveyard. He said he will go though them and pull all the used usable thin rings for me.

Very good find indeed.  While you're there can you ask him about brake bands for the metal-flag 181 chainbrake clutch cover?  I need a band (and would like to have a spare or two on hand as well).

Episan  piston shows made in Turkey

VEC shows made in India      Think it stands for Vishal Engineering Corporation

Northwood saw out of Episan right now.
