I have a newer 111i and the only difference between the 111i and the 115 is the length of the bar

I was looking at the 120  in the CL ad and that is a nice one at a good price

No, I didn't get it. The chainsaw was a nice old 60cc 120. It was not a 68cc 120Si. I was looking at it within 15 min of you sending me the link.

How did you come across that Dolmar? I did all sorts of searches on CL and pulled up everything else that guy had for sale but I could not pull up that chainsaw. Maybe by the time I got around to playing with the search engine last night, it was already sold

Was down at the son's house using the 365 Special cutting on a big tree all afternoon Saturday.

Post by: Al Smith on November 20, 2012, 09:33:45 am
As far as I know they never made a 250 with a muff cov or at least I've never seen one .I've got 4 or them myself from the early model that just has a stub spark arrester to a later model with the black air box cover that uses a standard round McCulloch muffler they used on many models .I'll check here later on if I can find that black cover model because it may have a long chain clutch/chain guard which would act like a muff cov .

Say I did manage to find the black cover 250 but it took some digging .No long cover plus every 250 I found had a spark arrester ,several different styles .I'm missing one that I thought had a muffler but that might have been a super 250 .The IPL's ,several ,does not indicate a muff cov for that model

A friend had one of those on a Dart Kart in 1959 and seems like it was geared 60:1. Another friend had a heavier Simplex with a MC-10 that had a huge sprocket on the live axle and a tiny one on the engine. it was like 80:1. I went around the road course using the MC-10. In three laps I had lapped the friend with the two man saw on his Dart Kart. Those old engines just did not run like the new engines in 1959. The Mac's didn[t have chromed cylinders back in those days. The MC-10 had the tower type reed plate and flared intake and exhaust.

The usual ratio for a 5 cube West Bend at the time was 72:1.

I hope I got all that right for it was 53 years ago.

I didn't have the money to play that game.

This is a new one on me. You put a AFM big bore cylinder on a 660 and it transforms   ::)

This is a former MS660 that I purchased with a bad cylinder. I replaces the piston and cylinder with a 2mm overbore so now it is a MS880.

A 660 with a 2mm overbore cylinder (54mm > 56mm) is only 98.5cc  and the 880 is 120cc

From Bailey's . . .
Stihl 066*, MS 650*, MS 660*
Replaces Part Number 1122 020 1211
Bore 56mm
Stroke 40mm
Displacement 98.5cc
Rings 56mm x 1.2mm

Sounds like he is carrying a heavy load in the seat of his pants?

It might be rebadged??  as Remington??   I can't quite make out the label even using 400% zoom,  but it doesn't appear to read Mall.

Years ago at about 1 out of every 4 farm auctions they had some model of Mall saw for sale which usually went very cheap .Ignition coils would go bad on those things .That fact plus almost impossible to find a replacement chain plus the fact they were slow as a snail and weighed a ton was why they were banished to the barn .

I will say though they were built like battle ships .Unless  straight gassed on I doubt you could wear one out in two life times .

Where the hell do these idiots find their 'year of manufacture' info?  1943?  Yeah right.  More like 1963.  Seen that kind of stupidity many times.  If a saw looks 'old', then the seller will pull some arbitrary year out of their ass (guess that's where they get their 'info').  They always state it as absolute fact (never "I think this may be from the 1960's").  I've seen 1950's saws labeled as "1930's", 1960's saws labeled as "1940's", and 1970's saws labeled as "early 50's"....

Yep.  They are low RPM growlers.  EXTREMELY loud too.  The Bolens Thrifty 3010 that I'm working on is very similar to that saw, and has an open  'muffler' that really doesn't muffle things at all.  A fellow can see right into the cylinder when looking down the throat of that 'muffler'.  It directs the noise away from the operator, and towards whoever is standing to the front/right.  I had that saw running next to my shop, and got a blast of noise whenever the 'muffler' was pointed at the shop wall.

I'd like to have a fire sale and get down to 4-5 saws myself.   All my cutting areas are drying up here.  Just lost around a 600-700 acres I used to cut on with a friend for firewood for him an test sticks for me.  All the land sold and broke up.

Do have some monsters to drop down south on my land though.  Maybe next spring.

Would this be a good saw to give me some 'practice repairing' on?

Is the price good, bad or 'other'?

I have a compression gauge, is it 'out of line' to request it be hooked up before purchasing a used saw that is advertised with compression issues?

One last question...what is the compression supposed to be on this saw?

Scott (need something to break) B

A running 350 in intact, decent condition is a $200 saw around here.

Nope, not out of line to do a compression check.  The seller said 'feels like' it had issues, he never did an actual check.  Different saws 'feel' different.  IIRC, the 350 I had was around 150 -155 or so ...

Title: Re: Craigslist
Post by: Eccentric on January 18, 2014, 10:53:00 pm
That's a 44mm bore 350?

That would affect the price as well.  Would have to check to see which p/c it has.  Could have either.  It doesn't have a purge bulb, so it's an older saw.  There were 'pre-bulb' 45mm 350's though.  The 2003 45mm 350 I had didn't have a purge bulb.

See the mung under the clutch cover?  Looks like he was cutting RR ties.  Low compression on these saws can be an indication of a smoked P/C (which is very possible given the failure prone plastic boot clamps on the older saws).  If the top end is dead then I wouldn't pay more than $40-$50 (at most) for it.  Gotta figure in  $100+ for an aftermarket top-end.

I just got back from a 3 hr round trip that was supposed to net some goodies for me and some serious trade bait for another saw guy.  Unfortunately, the seller sold all the good stuff to a local tree guy the day before the 'official' sale.  Just the crumbs left from what would have been a good Husky score.....:(

In other news, I did pick up something nice (small, but nice) from the same sale that you may be interested in Kevin.  I'll look closer at it and shoot a few pics.  Either you'll end up with it or I will......

This is my ad, I'd like to be 'fair', but I don't want to give it away either.  So I ask those here to give some advice....(not looking to hear about "I buy junk saws all the time like this for $25'-this isn't junk).

Fair enough....I do realize it's more of a location thing sometimes, but I'd rather not have to deal with shipping at this point(so my market is quite reduced).

There are several on ebay for sale.
If it were a 056 Magnum, that might be a good price.
If it included the b/c, it might be a good price.
As it stands, PHO, I would wait a few days to see if his price will come down or he will include the b/c
If somebody else grabs it up at that price, you will have saved yourself some bucks.
There will always be another saw, another day, better price.

IMHO

It is listed on eBay also....
If it were a Magnum, I would have listed it at $650....
I can include bar/chain for additional....
If it doesn't sell, I will put it back 'somewhere' and list it later on....
If someone grabs it at that price, I'd be able to buy new toys....
I have other saws not list....yet

If it were a 'junker/rebuild', I would have probably liked this one a little more.  Having a non-runner is something I need in order to 'learn on'.  As it stands though, it runs far too well for me to rip open just to 'play'.

I'd say feebay will  bring more money. But you will pay close to 25% of it toward fees when all said and done.

I try and never sale saws on feebay at all cost.  I prefer to sale local for less or here.

Guess there was something wrong with the ad I made for eBay?  I went to look at it today...and it is just gone!

The fees must be hidden?  I only see $25 for the listing and that is it....unless I'm missing something?

This saw is 147 highway miles away. That would be 300 miles on your pickup to go get it?

The tank and handle looks old.   The starter cover usually has a black line on it and it is worn off.   The top covers look like they could be new.   Looks like it was cleaned up real well, but low usage saw who knows.    Way over priced as far as I am concerned.   Pull the muffler, do a compression test, start it and see what it sounds like.  Pull the clutch drum and see how much wear is on it.  Those might tell if it is low hour.

3 saws one price. craftsman = poulan , mac, husky  http://mansfield.craigslist.org/grd/4420637263.html

The mexi-mac is nothing more than a saw to either toss or get running and sell on CL.

The 36 is a decent saw.  I grab those (36-141) when they are cheap and local.

The Poulan is a very good saw.  It is either a 3.4 branded 3400, 3.0 branded 3400 (same saw other than a 'false' marking of 3.0ci to meet a lower price point), or 3.7 branded 3800.

If this bunch was local to me I'd be trying to get them for $100.  If the P/C are good on the Poulan and the Husky then I'd probably still pay $125 if I had to if I didn't have to make a long drive.

This past Sunday there was a Craig's List incident in town that one should think about?

There was a I-Pad for $225. Caveat #1 (Likely stolen?)

The 48 year old man was to meet the seller at the elementary school playground. Not at the sellers home or place of business? Caveat #2 (No bricks and mortar identifying location?)

When the seller arrived at the school, there were two high school age kids as sellers no car or anything. Caveat #3. Probably hot? (You will be double teamed?)

When the one with the I-pad showed him the device, the other kid put a hand gun to the buyer's head and demanded the money!!!

They ran and the buyer chased in his car but the sellers went out in a field and through the woods.

The cops got the one kid through his cell # two days later.

There's a lot of No No's here.

I hope you guys remember what they are?

Don't be buying any chainsaws at the gas station or mall parking lot?

Mac 15.  Consumer/farmer saw.  Same 'mild' 80.5cc engine that's in the 1-43 and 200 (but built in an 'economy' chassis).  It's a 250 engine, but with some of the ports not machined.  Also has a strangled intake.  Mostly a noise maker/GTG saw.  Made to compete with the Wards/Mono, Clinton, Homelite Buz/500, and similar 'budget' saws of the early 1960s.  Same bar mount as other large frame Macs, so that bar could be used on something 'more interesting' like a Super 250.

Good price for new.  Family tree 6700 670 then 680. Updates along the way. All for the better IMO.
High 5's to low 6's like $629 at Home Depot. With 24" http://www.homedepot.com/p/ECHO-24-in-66-8-cc-Gas-Chainsaw-CS-680-24/100662068

Not on power range of 372 440 etc. More like 365.

Title: Re: Craigslist

Click the reply button under the last post and it will give you a bigger editor.

Down below the editor box is the "Attach:" box.

Click on the Attach: box and it will go to your computer files. You will have to select the directory where you put them in your computer.

When you select a picture it will high light that entry.

Then press "Open" in the box at the bottom and you will return to the Chainsaw Repair editor.

You can then press "Post" at the bottom of the Chainsaw Repair editor and your entry will be posted in the forum.

To add a 2nd picture, click on "Modify" in your post and select the next picture. etc.

Seems as though you can only add one picture at a time. You will have to re-edit your post with the "Modify" button for each picture.

There's 15 pictures in that ad. I don't know if you can get all 15 in one post?

Post by: 660magnum on September 10, 2014, 07:44:35 pm
Go to PhotoBucket and get your picture on the screen in viewing mode (Not Icon Mode) and over on the right you will see a option to click on "img". Left click on it and then come back to your Chainsaw repair editor and past it where you want the picture.

You will have to do this for each picture.

Have photo bucket in another tab so you can switch back and forth between photobucket and chainsaw repair.

That's one of their blade saws.  From the 1960's.  For some damn reason, clueless CL sellers often feel the need to pull some guess out of their butts regarding the age of their 'vintage' saw.  They're almost always off by 10-20 years.  One of my peeves......

Nobody's perfect.8)

The XXV series saws were made in many colors besides green (although I'm guessing you're referring to Poulan as opposed to the color).   An XXV series saw is one of the best tophandles made (by anyone).  MUCH better than the 'suitcase handle' Stihls that were made during the same time period.  Not talking about a Micro series saw (including the Micros that have "XXV" as part of their model name).  Still good saws (great for camp/pickup/trunk/etc duty) but not in the same class as the XXV's.

A 96 note chromatic is a old timer but would be a honey to learn to play. It hasn't been played to death.

Mine is a 64 note with the sharps controlled by a push lever on the right side. Works a little different.

The regular pocket harmonica is a 20 note Diatonic.

The regular pocket harmonica is a 20 note Diatonic.

You know if I ever get out there for GTG you and I will have to get together.   I will the play the guitar and you the Harp.   Fun fun.

I can't find the merge topic stuff on these mobile devices:(

Mike just so you know.  It is a 2 part move to get into a existing thread.  Just like you moved thread to this board by MOVE. Then you have to do a MERGE with and pick thread to merge with.
I just did that with the thread you moved from stihl to for sale to here.  If you look at above post you will see original thread post.  Goes by date times to fit in.

Keep learning it will help big time. Thanks.

If ALL the cylinders and pistons are good then he's not too far off.  Otherwise, I wouldn't pay more than about $100 for all of it (I'm cheap, and already have examples of all those saws plus many parts).  Maybe a bit more if the 245A has a good P/C.  Heck...........................I was thinking for a minute that he'd raided my shop..... 8)

I run the models he has represented there....................but I'd be more enthused if there was also big CounterVibe (4200-8500) stuff in the mix...:D

Reminds me of a guy recently telling folks his 066 660 was 110cc. I was like OK tell me how you did this. LOL.  Bore stroke etc? All he ended up having was a woods ported stock bore 066. DA thought because it was ported it grew in cc's. ;)

poulan 5020 wish I had a crack at fixing this  http://cleveland.craigslist.org/grd/5127363436.html

info in ad === Earlier in the summer I picked this Poulan PP5020AV chainsaw from a curbside pile set out for trash pickup. It was hard to believe someone would have put this out as trash considering how little use and wear and tear it showed. It appears to have had minimal use from it's condition. You can see this from the attached photos. The bar and chain are hardly worn though I think the saw has been left outside to get rained on or wet. The cutting edges on the chain look as if they were new and unused or freshly sharpened. There is superficial rust on the muffler and some in areas on the chain.

I have tried to get it to fire over hoping to have lucked out with this find. But it refuses to run. It seems to be OK as far as the fuel supply is concerned. But did not have any spark showing. First making sure there were no lose contacts, wires or bad on and off switch I was thinking the ignition coil was shot. I ordered an OEM replacement coil, and as long as I was at it, a new OEM pleated filter and a missing top dust cover figuring this would fix the problem. After installing the new coil there is plenty of spark at the plug, but still no indication of any cylinder firing. Nothing. After looking with a flashlight through the spark plug hole, I discovered STRANGE looking marks on what I can see of the cylinder walls. I think the saw problem is due to lack of compression. A previous owner evidently has done something BONE HEADED with this saw.

I spent $37.50 for the new parts from Jacks Small Engine Parts on line. I would like to get $37.50 for the Poulan PP5020AV as is, just to recoup the cost of parts I ordered. I had hoped at least to use the nice chain and bar on my well worn Poulan Wild Thing but it is not even close to fitting. If you have a Poulan PP AV series saw that could use freshening up, this is a real deal for salvaging and combining parts from this little used saw with what you have.

Yeah about $200 too high.  You might get that on eBay or maybe on Arboristsite if the right buyer comes along.  It looks to be a good runner saw but not a cherry shelf queen like some of those guys like bidding up to the moon.

Are you selling the Jonsereds too?

Buy now. That 3.3 black blue is like one I just got in. Sweet saw.  335 with 3450 piston It would take 125-150 to get mine.

The 3400 50-75 and if it was special numbering like one I sold 100.

Looks like a Poulan Pro 380 non runner on flea bay but the shipping charges are heavy.  Don't see them often anymore, running or not.

Don't forget Roy those are Canadian dollars and no tax.
I just sold my worn out 066Redlight and 10mm 044 for a $1000. Saws still run strong even though they don't look so good :D
35 years ago when logging I could sell my year old completely worn saw to a homeowner for $300 and the saw would keep going for years for the little cutting they do.
Pro saws do have a good reputation and sell well. Especially when owned by a pro ;)

Here's a pic of my favorite Stihls on my bench.  Just took this picture a few minutes ago.

The guy who bought my 066 and 044 brought them in this morning to get the 066's starter rope replaced and he wants a 20" b/c on the 044. I let him keep the 25" bar that was on it as a bonus.

He's a carver and gave them a good work out already, I even admitted to him the 066 at 24 yrs old never had its cylinder removed and still has its original carb diaphragms. Still idles perfect and runs like a champion. I think its heated carb might have something to do with the diaphragms longevity, constant thermostatically controlled at 77 F.
My 090 also is the same age and still has the original diaphragms and runs perfect.  8) I always ran it dry of fuel before put in storage.
Getting the 090 ready to mill some 10"x10" for February's competition.

Nothing really exciting.   I'd like to have that PM 10-10S, but it's not a big ticket item.  They were ported a bit more aggressively than the other 54-57cc 10 series.

Already got one that'll get completed whenever I finish the 2 dozen projects ahead of it.....

I've known about these for awhile now. Guy I know and have dealt with.

pioneer sale 655 , 525 , P65, P51, P52 , 455 , P45 , farmsaw , saws and parts , all plus shipping 600.00

farmsaw starts on prime

P52 on bench has fire but low compression,

(2)52 H motors on bench are possibly good were in a box full of dirt , need took apart and inspected but as they are they are included for this price

(10) recoil covers , seveal carbs , coils , bar covers , small items, handles all pictured goes

3 saws on side in first pic all have compression, i just havent messed with them but i would almost bet all 3 will run with very little work

no bars or chains , there is a brake in one pic on floor its gone but last pic brake cover is here with band missing
