GTG is still on, for Oct. 8th.
This is the one north of you with a few minutes drive, Al ;D
-
I don't own any Poulans. :'(
-
I have Friday night football to go to. But you are more then welcome to come in after game or close to midnight and stay here or come early morning and ride with me there.
You can run my old stock poulans. Heck 2 of them were your children once. Well 3 were, but she is still needing those bearing and seals installed.
I want to try some of those one Mark and others have that I have never run before.
-
Thanks for the invite. My wife and I was going to go to the Johny Appleseed Festival but she thinks she might be on call that weekend now. Ill let you know. Is this GTG going to be a timed cut race or a ''bringem and runem for fun'' type GTG?
-
Is this GTG going to be a timed cut race or a ''bringem and runem for fun'' type GTG?
From what I heard not a racing gtg by any means. Just a bunch of Poulan saws and guys cutting up some hardwood logs for fun.
-
I'll go if I'm not working .Geeze I think I only have a couple of Poulans that run .
No big deal I'll bring a few of a different brand I'm sure not many have ever seen . ;)
-
Got the e-mail ,thanks .
When this guy first had plans if memory serves correctly the poor guy got his tractor stuck axle deep in the mud with the monsoons of last spring . He wasn't the only one to get mired in the mud .I saw a lot of them .
Ha most of Ohio is normally high and dry .However under the right conditions that mud is most likely as bad as the swamps of Lousiana .
-
Al if I make it I will be bringing w8ye along with me. You guys will have a lot to talk about.
He was buying and running the Macs and Homelites back when they were real saws and remembers the newer lime green poulans showing up on the dealers shelves. Fun guy to set down and talk with.
-
As of right now the 8th is not my weekend to work . As I said I only have a couple of Poulans but I'll bring a couple Stihls just as a comparrison ,few Macs, the 805 of course plus some geardrives .
Sounds odd perhaps but I've never seen many Poulans except the Sears versions and the s-25's .The larger ones just never were popular around here .
-
Sounds odd perhaps but I've never seen many Poulans except the Sears versions and the s-25's .The larger ones just never were popular around here .
Thats because the guy north of you having the gtg has been buying them all up for years. Then you got another guy going south of you that buys them up down there in north KY to southern Ohio.
-
I think Robert Andrews AKA Rotax Robert ran 100cc Poulans on the west coast races .Never seen narey a one .
-
Seen some old familiar faces and met a lot of new ones. Thanks for all the fun and new saws to try out. 8) ;D
Didnt realize how strong some of those older stock poulan were :o 4200 5200 etc. I also think some was surprised by the JD 800 = Echo 8000 that tested out to be quite the strong saw itself.
Thanks guys for the lime green show, just something about that color I like.
-
I had a good time too.
I saw a lot of Poulans in the flesh that I had only seen on the Internet. Some great running saws.
Saw some huge saws at the GTG in Homelite and MAC.
Some high speed saws too.
There were a lot of biscuits made Saturday.
Food was excellent.
-
I too saw some saws I had no idea were even in existance .
Poulan was never a big player in these parts and as such about the only thing ever seen were the smaller Craftsman types . It's a real eye opener to see the larger professional models in action .
Ha ,Ohio Gregg has enough cookies cut to heat the house half the winter . ;D

Looks like you guys had it made in the shade 8). Pretty nice spot for a gtg.
-
Pretty nice spot for a gtg.
50mins from my house to his right off 30. Practically neighbors.
-
Say I think it was Mod Mark who had a 361 ?? maybe Poulan .It struck me as a copy or at least much akin to the design of an xl 12 Homelite . Turns out according to Mike Acres it is . This picture shows a Lombard 4.2 cubic inch of the same design .
Now the big question ,was it Homelite who had the design,Poulan or any other of the many companies that used similar designs .Could it have in fact been a third party who came up with the design and sold rights for reproduction of same to all the rest of them ? This is becoming a geat historical mystery .
-
Almost forgot. I ran a Partner P100 finally thats been on my wish list to try out. Thanks to Modifiedmark.
-
Hey Kevin, it was good to see you again. It was a wonderful day.
-
Sure was good to see the old gang again. Lets do it again sometime soon.
-
Did you guys notice how it got so freaking quite when I was yelling out for Brad after he ran his little ported poulan top handle to see what chain he was running.
It was like everyone quit talking and running chainsaws at the same freaking time I yelled hey Brad the 2nd time real loud. Felt like WTF moment :-[ :-[.
Yep had fun and got to me some new and some old faces.
Next time I will have to have a list of freaking saw showing up so I don't miss running one on my to do list like Marks 655. :'(
-
I don't know what he did to it but that little rascal would run now .I always did say though that an s-25 Poulan has always been underated but obviously not by someone who actually ran one .
-
Now on that chain of which I have no idea what it was ,Oregon at one time made 1/4 chisel in both full and skip .The original s-25 had 1/4" chain .Fact I've got the drum and a chain but it's semi not chisel .
I've mentioned the fact many times that Ralph Nader was instramental in getting that non guard type chain taken off the market .If however a person could possibley find the stuff those little saws even in stock form will literally fly though wood .It was the fastest chain for little saws I had ever seen .The last I'd seen any of that chain was probably around 1977-78 .
-
Al make sure you bring your 200T 3/8 050 chain so can get drive link count and I will make a loop of that PS3 round chisel chain up for you while you are stopping by. ;)
-
Well alrighty then .That and the freakin carb working right maybe the super bee will make a better showing next go around .I can't believe the bumble bee got stung by a Poulan --mumble-- grumble . ;D
-
You know in line with my last post I almost think that damned little super bee has blown a seal .It never dawned on my pea brain that a 10 second run could not possibley heat the carb up enough to leak until I was driving home the other day .
I'll try next week to get another seal and see what's up with that thing .You know though come to think of it I've certainly changed a lot of clutch side seals on those little rascals .4 or 5 within the last year as a matter of fact belonging to others .
Maybe there's more to that story of problems in addition to the noted carb problems .From time to time a lot of complete crankcases with crank intact show up on flea bay rather cheap obviously from cooked top ends .
-
Al dont you have a stock 200T too? Is it up and running if so.
-
Yeah runs good or at least the last I ran it it was okay .Actually a stocker would be a better test than the super bee come to think of it .
I'll see what I can do next week .Freaken 12 hours a day until next Wednesday .Dark when I leave dark when I get home .
-
Yep that was what I was getting at. ;) :D
OT is here big time too. Mandatory OT for the younger people everyday and up to 40 short per shift on 2nd sometimes. You can work 7 days a week 16 hour shifts if you wanted too. I'm just doing 6-7 days a week and 8 hr shifts.
Need to get my 3 highest years up there in the next few years.
-
Well they finally got off that kick they had Rotax Robert on plus myself with 12 hour shifts OT only after 10 .Sat Sun straight time .Now they have pay and pay dearly .
Never the less damned if they didn't off shift me last night for 12 but it cost them double to do it .After I get about 4 hrs of sack time off to the dealer because I need some other Stihl stuff plus a tour of the back room for rebuilders .Might walk out of there with an 066 with a cooked top or something ,you never know . ;)
-
Dang time flys. Mike has let us know the 2012 Poulan GTG at OhioGreggs is close.
I don't know if this has been put out here before.
If it has forget that you heard it and that way it will be all new to you again!!!LOL
The date for the Poulan Lovers GTG is OCT 13, 2012!!!
Mark this one on your calendar guys as it is without question one of the top annual GTGs in existence!
It will be at the family farm of Ohio Gregg in Jenera Ohio.
You can shoot him a P.M. or me if you desire.
Mike
-
I have sold off the 3400 - 4000 series and have some parts left to trade for the newer poulan parts like 3000 305 335 3300 330 3750 etc.
I have a complete 3400 recoil and flywheel, muffler, intake, 3400 cylinder could be cleaned up IMO (I'll look closer if needed with pics). I think a carb and trigger and passive safety with springs too. I might have more .
If I make it to the GTG could be brought there to exchange.
-
Al try and remind me to bring those homemade punches from India for you to check out. They work better then OEM IMO.
-
That was super good time and Thanks Gregg for hosting another great gtg. 8)
Also some super nice sticks of wood to test in too. 8) ;D

Hope all you guys had a good time! I know I sure did. Lots of great old saws, and not just green ones. ;D
Wasn't long after some of you left, we did get wet. We hung out under the canopy's for a while, then moved up to the garage and drank a few beers, ate some venison chile, and were treated to some great picking and singing by Mike, and Dean. :)
Gregg,
-
Thanks for posting all the PICS & VIDS Kevin. That sure made things easy. LOL Takes me forever to post stuff like that.

I feel bad about missing Mikes guitar and Dean's dancing that Brad caught on video. Looks like a grand time. I was rather tired and left about 4pm

Thanks for posting the vids enjoyed the lot. Was nice to see a couple of vintage yellows running what was Al running. The second saw smokes like my promac 850 does when I wind it up before a cut. And it looks like the after party was a great success I hope everyone got home safe cheers and thanks again
-
That smoke is typical of an old Mac with some age on it .The impulse activated piston pump oilers get to leaking a bit and suck bar oil into the crankcase .
You know it's surprising considering age that those big cubic inch saws will cut as well as they . The 084 Stihl I brought while not as old really didn't do much better than some of those 30 and 40 year old saws of many colors and makes .
What is does make you appriciate is some of the old timers who ran those things all day every day back in the day .Geeze now days they complain of maybe 20 pounds of saw and those old duffers will go twice that and more .
-
I cant remember if it was set in stone or not. I know it's buried in a poulan thread, but thats like finding :-X hens teeth at times.
What is the tentative date for the Poulan 2013 GTG?
-
So you all know and can get your ducks in a row.
Poulan GTG Oct 12, 2013
Same place.
-
This Sat at OhioGregg's place.
-
I plan on being there as long as I'm still able to stand/walk. Really screwed up my knee last week at work but it was feeling a lot better then today the sucker popped and is worse than it has ever been. >:(

I hope you and your son makes it.
The little 2100 will be there. Still only needing fuel line replaced.
-
We'll be there Kevin....I may just be hoppin around lol. Might bring one of my wood cutting buddies as long as Gregg don't mind.
-
I'm just bringing the WT505 the rebuilt 445, 3500 and the new 5020 with 16" to run. 2 of them not even broke in, Starting 2nd tank and 4th.
The other 2 2100 BB3450 are for you and Mike.
-
If anyone has a 3000 305 or 3.0 grey with 3/8 set up please bring. I have my craftsman 3.0 bare bore 3000 but dont have the time to switch the 325 rim to a 3/8 right now. So I will be leaving it.
Just bringing the new 5020 = 16" 3/8 and new b+c 20" and case if someone wants it. Then rebuilt 3500 16" 3/8, rebuilt 505 (all rebuilds still on 2nd tanks) and a 445 rebuild.
-
Reminder as directed ,S-25 fuel cap . ;D
I got them all loaded up and ready to go and surprisingly they all started .In addition I replaced the carb on the suoer bee Stihl 200t with the one Eddie Anderson sent me from Stihl .Didn't even have time to dial in it .Whatever it was factory set so it is .
-

I thought it noteworthy and worth mention of the Mall model 6 Brad Snelling restored. Excellant job to say the least .
-
Brad did a great job on the chainsaw itself. It absolutely run perfect at the GTG. I bet it ran no better when new?
It would have been nicer with a different chain than that scratcher chain that didn't hardly cut.

I had never seen actual scratcher chain in operation before . It just makes saw dust not chips .With chipper chain those big old Malls even as slow as they run cut pretty good .
-
so how did those digits get carved up kev? ;D holding the bar to start the saw? playing catch with a poulan? :D
-
First mistake I forgot my leather gloves. Then 1st saw I ran was the green 505. Noticed chain got tight and binding out of cut.
Set saw down with saw OFF ;D and lifted chain off bar. Then tried to pull chain foward. Thats when it got me. Hand slipped and chain didnt budge.
-
oh I've done that a couple times. :) and it only took a couple times for me to learn ;D usually takes a few times before I clue in. now I gotta watch the pairs that have pretty much no finger tips left on them. they end up making me stuff pieces of wood or metal under my fingernails.

Mike and Brad told us last night Nik had passed. RIP
