Looks like I may end up replacing my Husqvarna 257 that I have had 1997 , as much as I hate to. We have a Toro dealer here which is where I first bought this saw but now they have gotten so big it's always the same thing, bring it in and leave it and we will get back with you. No joke, the last time I took it up there for just a small issue they took 6 weeks. Our Ace hardware now only works on STIHL because they have a contract to only sell STIHL. One other place here has a really bad rep online and I called and when they finally got the chainsaw guy on he was saying if it was a 257 I needed to buy a new up to date saw which is what the complaints online are all about that they try not to repair or service anything but push sells. Our Lowes has someone but they have a 4 week wait. Gonna try Tractor supply but thought I would post here for some input.
Looking at Jonsered® 70 cc CS 2172 Chainsaw Powerhead, I have never had one of these saws but I have heard good things about them. I have heard also that Husqvarna makes these. Is that correct? Also looking at Jonsered® CS 2166 Chainsaw, CARB Compliant at http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/jonseredreg%3B-cs-2166-chainsaw-carb-compliant . Not sure what the big differnce is in these other than the $100 price tag. Can someone enlighten me a bit here.

Based on you guys experience which one of these do you think would serve best for all weather year round use on medium to large trees.

Your 257 saw uses a K095 small mount Husqvarna style bar.
The 55.5cc Husqvarna also use the K095 small mount Husqvarna style bar.
The Jonsered 2172 & 2166 chainsaws are a larger frame than your 257 and use a D009 large mount Husqvarna style bar.
All these saws are made by Husqvarna.

Med to Large trees like you say. 2166 is just a detuned 2172. I would buy the 2166 of those. Only thing detuned is inside the trans covers.

The most natural replacements for the 257 are the 555 and 2258 (both are 60cc, despite the model designations). I suggest the 555, as you likely are used to the Husky handlebar angle.

As much as you like your 257, you may not like the extra weight of the 2166. So, I'll second Kevin's and Niko's idea on the 2258. Probably be the ideal replacement for your 257.

I just bought a new bar and chain. Here is a picture of the bar specs. I needed something with reach. Including the chain info also. The 257 is a 57 cc displacement. Anything else that Hsky has that is in stock I am giving up some and going backwards. With the two Jonsered they are a move up because they are each 70cc. So I am gaining more power. I don't however understand the price difference.

So the way I see it. The CS 2172 Chainsaw Powerhead has 70cc and the reviews are lacking a bit for the price of $799.99. While the Jonsered® CS 2166 Chainsaw, CARB Compliant has better reviews for this saw and the price is $100 less that the other making it $699.99.
A big question I don't think I got answered it. With the picture I uploaded can anyone tell me if my bar will work with the Jonsered® CS 2166 Chainsaw, CARB Compliant

No! That is a small mount Husqvarna bar that will bolt to your 257. You see that it is a K095 bolt mount pattern? It is 24" long from the end of the mounting slot to the tip. It uses regular 3/8" pitch chain with .050" driver gauge and the chain needs 84 drive links.
If you are going to get a Jonsered 2166 you need a bar with a D009 mount. (Oregon 240RNDD009) with the loop of 3/8" X .050" gauge chain that is 84DL you already have in the picture.
A D009 X 24" bar will work perfect on your Jonsered 2166.

A Husky 555, Jred 2258, or 2260 would be my choice here. Same basic saw, just different plastics.
If you don't mind a large jump in weigh a 70cc saw would be fine. But like said, you'll need a different bar.

Yep, and no saw with a K095 mount will be really happy with a 24" bar - but some of them can of course use it in a pinch. Balance will be very front heavy - not nice to handle at all.
