I am slowly converting a 372 with jonsered 2171 crankcase back to a jred.
Looking at the 2171 top cover it uses clips and a separate carb cover from pics I have looked at on the net and the 2165 uses a one piece top and screws down?
Can someone help me out with good top cover pics please.
So far I have a 2171 crankcase and 2071 tank. Now I need a handle, top cover, clutch cover, recoil.
-
Would pics of a 2186 help?
-
I dont think so. I'm reading it's a 2063 2163 2165 2065 2071 2171 thing. Some are 2 piece and some are 1 piece covers.
-
Well I got all the parts and the 2171 is done. Went with the 2 piece top cover.
I tell you one thing I learned, unless you have a dealer local or someone that runs jred's. Parts are a lot harder to come by and people in the used parts and rebuilding saws business dont like to part with jonsered parts. Lesson learned and probably be the last time I part one together. Used parts are :o :o
-
A little harder to find in most areas I agree, but they shouldn't cost more than their Husky counterparts.
As far as letting them go, I'm pretty cautious with the older stuff myself because so much of it is NLA. If I come across some extras, I'll share them, but certain things I hold on to. ;)
-
I agree with the price and availability. I converted a 2071 to a 2171 and trying to find pieces was difficult to say the least
-
Nice to see you around Freakingstang! ;D
-
I decided to keep the 2171 instead of trading it for the unknown 371 that is said to be good to go too.
I know this one isnt a pretty looker after the parts searching, but she does run and cut sweet. I dont give a rip about looks of a saw, how it runs is much more important to me. ;D

It doesn't look that bad, really! ;D
-
Couple decals and repainting the top handle black, and she'll look great. 8)
That's about the way a saw should look anyway. It's got some time on it, and you can just grab it and go to work. If they look too good, you want to keep them that way. ;)
-
Not that I am worried about the handle and black paint part. But I never noticed that before.
I will have to find a 2171 pic somewhere and pay attention I guess.
Yep just the way I like them. Not real pretty but 100% mechanical sound.
-
I've always wanted a 2171 with the xpw top end. I very well may wind up gettin just that..... ;D
-
I tell ya what guys, to me theres no better lookin saw today than a new 2171/2172 or any Jonsered for that matter.
-
Yuuuuuup
-
I agree too. But around here all mail order. ;D Like I found out too, pita for parts on the 2171 rebuild.
In my area. All parts had to be mail ordered new and used.
Closest one shows at least 1 hour 1 way. http://www.jonsered.com/us/east/dealer-locator/
weimedog's 2172
-
Oh yeah! Thats a real honey right there now! ;) Sorry to hear what a PITA it is to access Johnnyred stuuf though.
-
McLaren where is a 2171 with a 75cc top end available?
-
Where? Im not sure I get ya? I know a few people that have them. As a matter of fact I have a new 2171 and should have a new xpw top end here tonight ;D I hope anyways! Only one thing better than a 372xpw and thats a 2171 with an xpw top end! hahaha! 8)
-
Nah, just messin with ya. I knew what ya meant from go. Just waitin to get her done before I post pics-which are surely a comin. Thanks for askin.
I should also be gettin a new 562xp in tonight as well......but thats another thread..... ;)

Somebody was wanting my 2171 out west. Only catch he wanted full wrap handle.
Being in this area I never seen a 2171 with full wraps before. So he sent me a pic of a new 2171 with full wrap handle.
Well anyway here is the part number for full wrap. 503806901

Cuttersedge has the full wrap handle in their IPL and a different filter set up for a 2171 that someone might be interested in.

Preparing the 2171 to do some possible little debbie clean up :o ;). Hopefully not.
Uploading a video cutting some super hard crotched HARD Maple with 20" and new LGX chain out of the box. Excuse the poor quality of video etc. I must have set something wrong. :-[

Go easy on that thing! You wouldnt want to wear it out ;)
Also, with the way that huurrrr--i-cane is wandering around lost and retarded in the gulf, i dont think that either of us are going to have to worry about it.
-
That would look cool with one of those Cutter's Edge air filters sticking up out of the rear?
-
Kevin. What do you think of those pro forester bars. Aren't they made in Germany?

The green lettered forester with replaceable tip reminds me of the oregon powermatch bars.
This is the 1st red lettered pro series forester I have bought to try. Rails seem a lot harder metal then the green lettered ones. Reminds me of the older windsor bars JMO. Otherwise not enough time on the bar brand new with just test cuts no real world usage.
Never paid attention where the red lettered one was made and to late now to check. I will be ordering more though.
-
Great looking saw. I have always like the way the J-Reds looked. BTW, where did you order the Forester Pro bar from?

I really cant remember which online dealer it was :-[. Thinking a dealer out of KY maybe. Not 100% sure on that.
Ahlborn also carries them.

JFYI
Cost of bar posted above in pics. $34.80, Shipping: $10.50 Total: $45.30
$45.30 total for Pro Series 5-rivet Bar for Husqvarna 20" 3/8 pitch, .050GA 72DL

Thanks for the info. I've got a 7900 that I need a new 20" bar for. May give that one a shot.
-
The 7900 uses the same bar as the big Husky and Jonesred mount

I believe the newer Forester branded bars are made in China. ;)

Carb tuning.

Sort of off topic but I bought some Woodland Pro chain from Bailey's the other day and when I got it on the chainsaw, I noticed it had Carlton written on the links. It looks like Oregon 3/8 ths chain to me with my limited knowledge.
-
WP chain used to be carlton, but who knows what happens nowadays, after Blount bought Carlton - and now owns Oregon, Windsor and Carlton...... ???
-
Here's some more confusion, Blount bought out Omark Industries [Oregon] way back in the 1980s
-
Yep, that is why they already owned Oregon, before they bought Windsor and Carlton.
-
I also just purchased some WP chain because its Carleton chassis but they are using fileable Oregon cutters.
-
I don't understand why you want the Carlton chassis, as that is not a low vibe one - and one of the reasons I don't want Carlton chain.... ::)
