Title: 5020 different kinda problem
Post by: old guy on May 14, 2015, 03:22:25 pm
I mentioned in another thread about not getting the rpm's out of my current 5020 that my first one got.
I knew the piston was scored at the exhaust port & the cyl. had coresponding mark.
So today I tore it down and found something interesting, at first the cyl. did not look bad, there was a small spot of transfer below the ex. port ( about 1/8 square)none of this looks like heat seizure or lean running, then I spotted a tiny hole in the cyl. wall(about .015)about halfway between the ex. port & and the bottom of the cyl. closer looking showed another small hole about 1/4" below the ex. port.
Next I used a lite thru the sparkplug hole and could see the transfer of aluminum on the cyl. wall better, there seems to be dimple in the middle of it, I'm thinking there is another larger hole under there which started picking up alum. off the piston.
I will try to post a couple of pics
MY pics are too large and I can't make them smaller.

That cylinder should have never been put on a saw with the porosity in it?
