Title: The cost of silver paint
Post by: Spike60 on May 16, 2015, 08:59:51 pm
Just thought I'd pass this on, cause I know how much everybody loves the silver paint on the newer Huskys.  :D

Found out today that the prices of the clutch covers for the 550 and 545 are not as close as you would expect. the 550 cover in "peeling silver" goes for $37 and the orange 545 cover is only $23. A can of orange paint is about $10. The 555 and 562 covers differ in more than paint, so this idea won't work for those saws.

Too bad about the different stud spacing on the 555 and the 562XP

I have a 545 from you and it is a wonderful saw. If I didn't also have a 550XP I would be wondering why anyone would want a 550XP? I use the 545 and 550XP together as a pair.

How different do you find them in a work environment?

The 550XP has a higher rpm limit on the coil than the 545 and the 550XP carries a little more rpm in the cut.

The weight and balance (feel) of the two saws is the same. I run the same brand and size of bar and chain on both saws.

To the casual firewood cutter the payout cost difference for the XP version is not there. The 545 is a better value.

Yet the 550XP carries certain inalienable bragging rights.

I agree with your impressions there. Same with the 555 and 562. The XP's do have a little more, but the 545 and 555 are closer than most people would suspect. And the rev boost is nice when blowing through some small stuff.

If I ever had one in for a tear down and it is my choice in the matter  that crankcase silver is going orange too. ;)
