Fines getting around where it mounts?  I have heard of folks using grease around mounting areas on others to stop this.

i'll try that.  not sure if the fines are getting in there that way.

its a two piece filter that snaps together. maybe leaking around the halves?  maybe fines are just getting through the filter material itself?

the whole carb mounting system is pretty cheesy.  everything is plastic where the bolts connect.

not a fan of the plastic on this saw.  pull start recoil plastic is already **** in a few places as well.

So you try it yet?  I bought both of those o-ring kits in blue and red box. Saves alot of running when needed.

...not yet.  don't know if this is the fix.  the filter bolt is the loosest fit, suspect its coming in from there.

...yes, the cost of the kit has payed for itself in the amount of gas used to drive to the hardware store.

I'd still try some grease smeared lightly on the mounting areas on saw. See if they catch any fines there in the grease.

The o-rings are a good solution, as noted.

I tried using a typical lithium-based, multi-purpose grease on the seams of the filter, but it wouldn't stay congealed enough to suit me. So, I got some synthetic grease for brakes, made by VersaChem, Part No. 26189, that's hi-temp, and it holds the viscosity better. Put some all the way around the side that has the groove in it, filling the groove. When the halves are put together, the grease squishes out, leaving behind what's needed to add to the seal. Wipe off the outside, and you're done.

Thought about taping the outside, but thought to try the grease first. Working fine (no pun intended), so far.
