Filmed by afleetcommand at Spike's cabin
A general video discussion concerning Husqvarna 362, 365, 372, and the XPW variation as well as the XT's and comparable Jonsereds with a comparison with the Husqvarna 272 family. Sound has low volume.

Thanks for digging up and posting this. I will wait till winter or a rainy day to watch though.
-
I thought it was a rather concise collection of thoughts and comparison on the "372" family of saws by one of the known authorities.
-
Very informative.
-
We can always wish that all saw dealers will be like Spike, but it will not happen - he is quite unique! ;D
-
Cheers, that was great to watch. The 61-272 series ones are just as good too.
-
Spike has what is essentially a brand new 272 shown in the video. I bet it is not for sale?
-
Yeah I was thinking to myself that I'd like to relieve Spike of the burden of having that 'inferior' 272XP in his possession. 8)
-
I'll start the bid at a low 300.00 :) Enjoyed it Spike. Its allways a treat watching his video's. Would love to see more, like maybe the 162/262 series.
-
Spike has several interesting old saws. But none as new old stock as this 272. It belonged to a friend that never used it.

I've been pondering lately about my "new" 1993 272 whether to keep it or not. I'm not a collector or don't think I'll ever be one.
Just ran it the other day for a few cuts in a poplar and even though it's not even broke in , it just doesn't spool up like a 372 . Notice the vibe too, but do have a brand new Set of soft mounts for it.......
Paid only $300 for it a few years back and it never cut a stick, only fired up for a few minutes once a year for 20 years.

Have not checked in for awhile, and found this right off the bat. Got my own beer and chocolate chip cookies, sat back and enjoyed!! A little taste of cooler weather has me eyeing some standing dead post oaks on the farm, and getting the itch. The smell of a hot saw and sawdust on an October day can wash away a lot of years.

Yup can't beat cutting wood on a cool fall day. One fine memory of mine was one frosty morning when I spotted a young bull moose staring at me from the far end of the landing.
It was rutting season so he had no fear in him. Not till my partner fired up the skidded did he decide to vacate the area.
Other times I encountered a bear looking for trouble on a
warm fall day when my saw just ran out of gas and he was between me and my gas can.
Other time was on a chilly December day when I was cutting road.
I was squatting down refueling my saw when I looked up and spotted 5 timber wolves a few hundred feet away coming to a stop from a full run to take a breather and check me out. We looked at each other for about 5 minutes. Then off they went again on a full run with no more interest in me. I figured they had bigger plans as that young bull moose was still roaming the area.
Cutting wood next to mother nature certainly has offered me many blessings of experiences, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. :)

Great site, but where are all the oil threads? :D
Bob has become my local saw shop, just wish he was closer to N Carolina.
Is there any noticeable difference in handling in the 272 with the outboard clutch vs. the 372? My guess is that the better vibes of the 372 makes more of a difference but I've been wrong before.
-
The b/c on the 272 is about an inch closer to center then the 372 making much nicer ergonomics and balance.
The 372 anti vibe is smooth but spongy in my opinion. The rubber mounts on the 272 works well with longer bars.
-
It's a toss up.
You just wouldn't believe what horrible things some people say about a 272 with the sprocket on the saw side of the clutch?
-
Using the 272, there's not much difference in power.
The difference is in the AV and the balance as has been said
-
A few years back I compared measurements of my 372 and 272 with the measuring tape.
I found the 272 was significantly more compact in size then the 372 ,shorter, lower and narrower.

That's because they don't really know what they are talking about, and aren't used to it.
It does matter how the outboard is attached to the crank though, some are more convenient to work with than others.

Alot of these people who complain weren't even born when the 266-272 were introduced. :D
I don't hear alot of whining from owners of the Husqvarna 346XP,562XP, 395XP and the Stihl MS200 outboard clutches. ;D

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Like compairing apples to oranges to me. Outboard clutches is all I've ever used and had no complaints. Now maybe so if you changed out chains all the time in the field. I'm just a firewood cutter, so I don't do that very often. I always file my chain on the saw anyway. Had a 372 for a short time, and used it for 1 year. Had a chance to make considerable money on it so it went bye bye. I have used 268, 272,s and presently have a 61/272 blend. Its even a slightly smaller package. The only thing I have against the inboard clutch is they tend to clog up more when trimming out saplings/grass around the base of a tree prior to cutting. Minor to me. Holmen, that 272 is a keeper. Wouldn't sell it if I were you. ;)

Thanks wild262
I'm getting an attachment to the 272 again, I think you're right I should keep it.
Seeing I run shorter bars I'm going to install the new soft rubber mounts I have for it, should help the vibe condition. Also installed a OEM HD air filter on it too.
Now about the poor throttle response I'm thinking it's original carb diaphragms should be replaced and also put some hours on the saw and break it in.
I missed out on these saws in the early 1990s as I was then a dedicated Stihl man with my 044 and 066. Today I own a 395 so I know what the 394 was back then, now I gotta get to know this 272.
