Finally found me a ole crosscut with big belly blade for the man cave 8). Now to think what I want painted and get some handles for both sides.
Always wanted one, as I grew up in my parents house with a painted up country scene one between den and living room.
They were just always way out of my price range.
-
Hung it over bench #2. Wonder if I should just get Redneck Chainsaw Repair painted across it.
Now to find some old handles.
I have past up so many at yard sales in past. :'(
-
Might be easier to find a wood turner to make you some new handles with extra nice wood.....
Scott (wonder if you know anyone, just sayin') B
-
Nice. Could get that painted on.
I've wanted a 5' 2 man for a while.
-
Called dad about handle hardware needed and he said he had a like new saw in the barn still and one from my grandpa. Plus the painted one in their den.
I need to find the whole hardware for the wooden handles. I seen all kinds on ebay but wont pay those prices. :o.
Lot of saws on bay Mike some decent priced.
-
Took a rough measurement and it is 6' to 6'.6" Pic shows it between 8' barn beams.
-
Looks good up there. I'll check out eBay.

I really need to hang my husqvarna sign over that bench IMO. I just hate getting on the ladder and stretching out to do so with those big signs.
-
I found one when we moved in here plus an old cant hook. I have no idea what the previous resident would have had them for with a pellet fireplace.
-
I know dad still uses one of grandpa's axes to split the oak for the smoker. I need to get more info on that stuff to hand down to my son someday if need be.
I already know the gun info to pass onto him. Even gave my brother a gun to hand down to his son. Being only the first grandson from each family got to pick guns. I ended up with 2 from that alone.
Plus 1 from dad already that was grandpa's from his 16th birthday in 1914.
-
Found me a nice old 2 man crosscut with the belly I like. 8)
I bought it for the nice handles and the rest is just a plus. ;D
-
Moved the old one down about 20 feet and put the nicer one over bench #2.
pic 1 old crosscut, pic 2 new one in its place.
-
#1 one plain tooth and #2 one champion tooth.

Looks like I got some more tooth type searching to do. The cross cut dad and mom had painted almost 40 years ago has a different tooth on it.
-
Guessing something like this for the painted one. Perforated–Lance Tooth Pattern – Bridge strengthened cutter teeth. Best for all but hard and frozen wood.

Very nice . My brothers and I got some old crosscuts to get painted up.
We had good success with those old peg and rakers in the local small contests but this is the tooth pattern we always wanted to get our meat hooks on.
Beautiful workmanship.
-
Yeah I used to check out those race crosscuts. Lot of $$$$ in them but they do fly in the cuts.

All this stuff was in a racing crosscut thread way back. But since it was brought up here J.P. Mercier Racing Saws http://pages.videotron.com/saws/product/crosscut.htm

I couldn't believe how much those saws are. Racing axes are high as well.

Yep expensive sport to get into now a days. Entries and events are dwindeling.
Seems like the only resurgence in the sport is the college circuit.
-
Finally got me a hand painted cross cut. Guy said it was painted by a women in Chatfield in 93 for his parents and their place. Their name is on the barn. They moved in town and he has had it since. Remodeling his place he said he decided not to hang back up when done.
Pics dont do it justice IMHO.

I had to turns the handles other way. But knew right where I wanted it.
