Title: stens 044 gasket set
Post by: aclarke on November 17, 2015, 10:14:40 pm
Ordered two more of the Stens ms440 gasket sets as the others I ordered looked very good. Measured the flywheel side crank seal and it measures 20.12mm, should be 19mm OD   Bummer!!!

Was the larger fly side seal a mis package or have they all been like that?

Where are you getting them from?

Bought online, came from Stens warehouse. PTO side was fine. Fanwheel side is 1mm over.

Ms460 uses 20mm so likely the wrong part in bag. Case gasket is correct.

Got my case painted. Waiting for it to dry.

Are you using the AFM crankcase gaskets Adam?  I have read folks saying there is not a good cc gasket for 044 046 saws in aftermarket.

Kev,
The Crankcase gasket material on the Stens looks like the typical grey gasket material you see in bulk sheets at auto parts stores.  Some of the other After market gasket sets I've used, Forrester for one, uses a different paper that looks more like the OEM Stihl stuff.  Might be better quality gasket material but I think the Stens stuff is fine...

I don't trust aftermarket parts that are time consuming to change if they don't work. I remember tearing into a few carburetors more than once because of kit problems. I finally refused to work on them unless I was given OEM, it was costing me too much time.
