Title: Homelite 290 and 340 - 47 54 in Canada
Post by: leec on January 19, 2016, 11:32:21 am
These saws are Solo inspired if not made. The 290 is 47cc and 340 is 54cc .  I've had a 47 for a couple of years not used it much but always starts easily runs a .325 chain on a 13-14" bar.  I've acquired 3 54 over the past year or so but not really spent much time with them.  Oddly it has the same carb as the smaller saw and probably would benefit from a larger one. These have different drive sprockets both spur and rim.  These would be very similar to the Solo 647 and 654, all have chain brakes and some part may still be available from Solo.

They were in fact made by Solo. We had high hopes for the more modern design but they never really went anywhere which was probably a good thing because parts were difficult at best to obtain.

I have a couple of 54 which are 54cc saw but they have the same carb as the smaller 47 saw which look too small even for it.  The carb off my Titan 57 (57cc) look to be twice the size in the venturi.  I'm wonding if that's why people seem not to like these 54 or 340 in the US.  Solo saws seem pretty good with these exceptions.
