Title: Need Bar Advice For Stihl 044 small pin
Post by: Jason K on August 06, 2016, 08:45:16 am
I bought a stihl 044 small pin from a member on here no bar. I would like to run a 32 stihl bar and skip tooth chain. I put a dual port muffler cover on it too.

Thanks
Jason

PNW in softwoods?

Hardwoods it might be slow and pushing the limits of a 71cc saw IMO.  Part time it might work for the occasional big cuts.

Older saw I would think the oiler could handle it, but you need to check. I know the newer 361 couldnt oil a 32" bar on test cuts for fun with a 32" in softwood.

Me I would stick to a 24" for hardwoods.

I have both soft and hardwoods. I think I am going too back off the 32 incher and get a 28 skip tooth.
Thanks

20"-24" is what I would run. I run 20" on mine all the time and love it really fun to run. I think with a 28" and full skip you will do just fine. A guy I cut trees for years ago always had a 28" on his 460 and  did good even with full comp chain.
