Title: mower oil and filter. what do you guys run?
Post by: 1manband on September 29, 2016, 06:14:54 pm
motorcraft filter: mix of 1/2 quart rotella that i had laying around and 1 quart stp brand 10w-30 cheap stuff.

...still about 1/2 quart low.

was running a fram 3614 the last few years.  had one laying around from an '80's chevy corsica that fit.
the new 3614 frams shrunk down in length quite a bit.  hahahaha.  need more oil now for this filter.

I run full synthetic on the 54" Toro  Titan with a Kawasaki engine .Haven't changed the filter .In 3 years of usage it just turned 50 hours .It's going to take long time before I wear this one out .

I must be loosing my concentration because that Toro showed right at 70 hours this afternoon after I mowed the yard .50 was this spring when I changed the oil .So that said by seasons end it should be about 25 hours per season of use .

you make a good point on mowing speed and longevity.  with my wheelhorse, i always mow in first gear about 3/4 throttle.  probably takes me twice as long as you.  if put into second gear, it has enough power to cut even way long grass, but lawn is very bumpy and hilly... it leaves uneven grass around turns and such and makes a vey rough ride for the cold beverage in the cup holder.

oem filter for my tractor are expensive around here about $9 to $12 each.  the equivalent replacements are pretty cheap about $4.

lots of cross references here:
shorter one:  http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=PH3614
longer one (like the one in my photo):  http://framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=PH3600

i have 3 or 4 of the longer style in different brands laying around.  like the longer filters that have an anti-drainback valve like the motorcraft, since filter is sideways mounted.

<edit>finally found a use for these filters.  does not happen much with the things i save.  hahaha. think a couple of these may be 20+ years old?

My  truck and envoy call for the same short small oil filter.  But I know the ac-delco 61 if the long version and run that on both.
