Title: extra Partner 5000 muffler
Post by: Jeff on December 25, 2011, 06:28:29 pm
I have read things about doing somthing to a muffler to increce (sp) the preformance of the saw. I have a couple of salvaged muffflers and would maybe try somthing myself if I knew what to do and how. If I did do somthing to the muffler will it harm my saw? I really love my saws and work them a lot so I dont want to do any damage, what are your thoughts?

The 5000 500 490 590 is easy. Open the 2 halves and remove that inner baffle. Readjust carb. Never even had to open the outlet on one till it was woods ported or race. Takes on a mean sound afterword and better throttle and in cut IMO.

I know exactly what you are talking about had mine apart alot of times .
1. will this lac of back pressure harm the saw?
2. what kind of adjustments should I expect to make? Thanks for the responce, Jeff

No problems with back pressure the saw comes alive, trust me.  The H will be adjusted richer. Do your L and I to your liking if needed.

This was one of my  runs with my race 5000. I had a 4th and 5th at MI at Fifelake and Luther. Had a coulpe 5th at Chardon making the finals 2 years in a row. This run was good for 4th at Murray KY.

Fresh Yellow Poplar aka Tulip poplar

Square thinned race chain $200 and alky with 12% nitro and 8 other ingredients give or take at  $30 a gallon for Nitrodine pushing through it that day.

Let me see if I have video of a stock one with baffle pulled. That muffler had baffle pulled and the outlet opened up to match the exhaust port size.

Most races are poplar, aspen, pine. Have seen spruce once at Chardon Ohio.

This is the 2009 KY show. Just to save them.

It was fun for a little while. But got old to me same races year after year and travel was a botch. I gave it up in 2010 after Webster and  when my boy started playing HS football.
It was well worth it and didnt miss the traveling at all.

MOS do you have a stock 5000 video with baffle pulled? I dont, just a 490 with baffle still in it.

Got any pics of the 5000 family? I had maybe a dozen at one time and started selling them off and just kept 4 5000 and 1 490 with a 490 builder set back.

Can you pick the race one out? There is a easy tel if you know your 5000's.

What did Nate run in the Hotsaw class?

Your saw you have now with the coktail mix. It was the most perfect run I have seen him do and that was all the saw had, he ran it perfect, start, change overs, etc. . If he would have had my saw with that run he would have won the show IMO.

Ron here is why the 4ci run was so slow. I forgot and wore my carhart jacket to the cant and when I pulled the starter habdle I was all messed up and pulled into my jacket. Lesson learned and I slipped up. Make sure to PIN it to start.

2 pulls to start and here is the run.
