My 70E oiler has gone bad on me . I've already checked the simple stuff and I'm positive it's the inner gear that's bad . My question is how in the world do you change it ? It looks like I have to break the saw in half to change it . Or am I missing something. I had another 70 for parts and tried that oiler , no difference. Anybody been there before?

Did you check the screen under the chain catcher?
-
Yeah , it's clean . I also tried opening up the screw under the saw to where it should have been gushing out but nothing.

Maybe you could try filling the groves in the oil pumps gear with thick grease and reistall. Then spin the flywheel 20 or 30 turns pull the pump and look at the grease filled groves to see if it being driven. Also all the orings on the pump must be present and in good condition.

Orings all intact and look good. Also I pulled the plug and removed the pull rope . Then I emptied the oil and filled it with marvel mystery oil, and used impact to spin the motor and got nothing. It agout has to be the inner gear but I cant see any way to get it out without breaking the saw in half . thanks for responding

You may be able to see the gear if you pull the clutch and crank seal, not 100% sure, been awhile. That is why I suggested to grease up the gear on the pump.and reinstall it. If the grive gear on the crankshaft is ok, it should leave witness marks in the oil pump gear if you turn the engine over 20 or so revolutions.

I had already pulled the clutch but can't see any way to get inside . on a side note the oiler on my 630 quit too , but I could get into it and I fixed it. Now I haven't checked to see if there's a weighted tube inside the tank. I'm going back out in a bit to get the heater going . I'll get back to ya . thanks again.

Yeah the bullet weight was plugged , but it's good to go now . Anybody know where I could find an old repair manual for the 70? Working on it isn't the problem , I would like to save on gaskets and such if I can tho.
