Make a Race chain, square work, your best round or whatever to compare. Always have a stock off reel chain tested to use as a baseline.
Is there anyone that has access to clean cant wood that would want to test chains like I used to in the past? I have to order and drive 3hr round trip in my 9mpg truck is why I am offering to someone else to try to do it. Then you have to keep the chains straight and mail right chains back to their owners when done.
Just build your chain to have tested against others. Say a 60dl 050 3/8 chain and whatever saw to be tested on with what gear to be run. Make 3 down cuts and just list as chain a b c d e as I did in the past.
I used a stock 7900 with 8T one year and I think a woods ported 357xp 7T another year.

It's about 5 degrees outside right now, gonna be 10 below zero tonight. Pretty tuff to get decent wood for testing chains in this place :'(
-
LOL I am thinking spring time when warmer. Gives the guys time to do their chain.

Both came in last 2 times I did it.
Dont see why anything cant be run to test. hand, grinder, round, square. All in fun to compare.

It'll warm up again I'm sure or at least it always has in the past .
When it does and it works out I'll bring a pair of 200T's and a chisel and a semi and see what the deal is on that small chain .--in my 26 MPG truck, small ya know ;)

I would square file a chain to test. 8)

I might be able to get one or two done if it's a few months. Need home time and plenty of free time to do it.
-
I've got to learn the craft. I doubt I will ever get into thinning and all, but there's a hell of a lot else I could learn.
-
A member here contacted me and said they would have plenty of clear cant wood in poplar after august. 8x8 and 10x10

No tunneling behind cutter or taking backs off though. Did fronts of rakers even though I wasnt going to.

Another chain build off 3ci this time.
So you think you can square file? Well quit talking about it and send your chain in to see.
The 3120 9T chain build off was such a success competitionsaws is going to have a 3 cube chain build off this time.
Just posting for a friend.
Oct 15th is the test date as of now.
Saw will be a Husqvarna 50 Magnum and wood will be 8x8 poplar this time.
I thought I would start a new thread for the 3 cube chain. The rules will be the same as the last build with the exception we will use 8x8 poplar.
Congratulations to all the guys in the last chain build. Surprising just how fast and close the chains are out there now days, compared to the builds I tested 3 4 years ago.
